Negotiating comp from promotion

found out another person made more in base for the same role. he was fired for not performing. I'm in line for a promotion.

The problem is the comp is the same as the guy who was fired.

Has anyone experienced this as well? how did you approach negotiating for a higher base?

Ask and ye shall receive. No harm in asking for more and you are the one that will be filling the shoes. Show performance and brag on yourself.

ok so I would just ask.

"im excited about the promotion and the raise, but i feel like the compensation isnt inline with the new responsibilities. I know that there were people making this amount for the role I WAS doing. Can we talk about what is appropriate for this NEW role?"

take the title you are hoping for and go look at RepVue and see if there are numbers for comp based on that title.

use that as leverage when you have the conversation.

Also, HOW you bring this up is important. if you come off like an ungrateful prick....that wont help.

Just tell hem why you thin me you should earn more. Be transparent and use your quota attainment and other brag figures as support

I doubt the guy was fired due to the Salary he was getting. And the Salary is probably the amount they want to pay for the role.

If they want you to do extra work they can pay you for it. 😉
