Nepotism was fine when I worked at a local car dealership

Welcome the thoughts, worries or no big deals for leadership hiring their kids, or better yet, board members kids, for entry level jobs?

I get it, not who you know or what you know, or I don’t know.

But, despite a few adjustments and right sizes /headcount reductions, these kids and roles are sticking around.

Am I jealous? Being a snowflake?

i mean you are being jealous but thats not really a bad thing here.

if the kids suck and they are being kept then I would be pissed. but if they are decent at least than its no big deal.

I hope one day I can help my kids land solid roles....but i hope more that they can perform at a level that will KEEP Them in those roles.

I am 100% with this sentiment. I honestly dont think its wrong for families to look out for their own, I get it in smaller family businesses how family members come in and sometimes can raise eyebrows but honestly if they are pulling their weight and getting shit done, it doesnt worry me at all.

If they are not, thats a different story and one i wouldnt hesitate to raise issue with because its the sort of thing that can kill a business

It sucks that it happens, but it does. Especially when there are more capable people to be in place. Such is life at times.

Agree... it is a blatant overstep imo... especially with multiple rounds of reorg of others, and mid level family performance.

Depends on the situation and the people. Does the boss protect the kids or make things harder on them?

Unfortunately any family business I assume this is the norm. If layoffs happen, they don't want to make Thanksgiving Dinner awkward so they wont layoff family

Entry level? Fine. As long as they are allowed to sink or swim based on their own merit.

It's when they are in a management level position that they haven't earned and usually can't perform at that it's a problem.

You are jealous and I would be too. But this would continue to so releasing these thoughts is the only solution as this is universal and would happen everywhere

It's annoying. Truly.

However, given the opportunity to do the same for my progeny, I wouldn't hesitate. (As long as they're actually able to do the job. It wouldn't be a free ride.)

Definitely happens. Usually doesn't end well. Don't be jealous, use it as motivation to show that you're better.

These situations are never fun. Every company will have nepotism to a certain degree but if the company is operating on a higher nepotism degree, it may be time to jump ship and go elsewhere.

There's always some degree of nepotism everywhere, unfortunately.
