Networking in Mexico?

What's up sales savages,

I am currently living in Mexico but working in the U.S.

My sweet spot as far as who to target are small companies 5-250, focusing on Owners and Hiring Managers.

Any ideas on how to network? Online forums or conferences you'd recommend to find more of these type of prospects?

Puerto Vallarta, but I don't do any local networking. There was a leads conference in Tulum a few weeks back. Buddy of mine went to it but it was outside of my industry so I didn't go.

There are a lot of companies here that either contract to or are owned by companies in the US and do typical call center shit.

I'm sure there are some kind of networking events or online forums. Facebook is full of groups of expats living in Mexico, I'd start there.

Great point about FB. I'm in Mexico City, Vallarta wouldn't be a bad option though haha.

Oh damn.. DF huh? What on earth possessed you to want to live there? How's your Spanish?

Haha a few things, I am a boxer too, the level in Mexico City is the highest in Mexico IMO. This is mainly what is keeping me from moving to a different part of Mexico as I do compete.

If I decide to only do it recreationally then I might consider moving but I love it here, so we'll see.

I was born in Chicago but when I was 3 I moved to Mexico City, lived here until 18, and moved to Cali. In Cali for 6 years and with the pandemic I said I was gonna go to Mexico for 1 month and turned into 18 months lol.

I'm planning on living here for 1-2 years and then back to the U.S. probably Texas.

My Spanish is perfect since I grew up here and I'm Latino.

Have you visited here? Condesa and Roma are full of remote workers and it is an awesome vibe, I honestly think I've networked with more people in tech here than in San Diego. Which is why I was asking about more networking ideas haha. @SaaSam

Ahh okay that makes sense. Have you thought about Guadalajara? I lived there for about a year and I know Boxing is pretty big there as well. As far as cities go I like Guadalajara. I hate living in cities though as I'm from Wyoming.

I've never been outside of the airport in DF, truth be told I've never felt all that much of a desire to visit. Granted, everyone in Mexico that isn't from there says it sucks and don't care for chilangos so my lack of desire is likely influenced by people who have a jaded opinion anyways.

Definitely! Guadalajara would definitely be among my top choices if I were to leave Mexico City.

Hahah I feel you on everyone hating the capital, I spent 3 months in Medellín and visited other cities in Colombia and everyone talked shit about Bogota and the "Rolos", which is how they called them lol, so, I never visited Bogota.

You might find it hard to believe since I was born in Chicago (Visit family there often) and grew up in DF, but, I'm not a big city guy either. Condesa/Roma are the only places I'd live in DF, you can literally walk anywhere.

Also, might be a little bias obviously but I've met a lot of people from Europe, US, Canada that ended up staying in Mexico City after visiting most of latin America. So, worth checking out haha.

That's good to know, you've officially piqued my curiosity enough to want to visit.

@SaaSam, everyone hates chilangos but has relatives that moved there. The historical hate for the capital runs deep into the federal government's history, favoring development there and leaving the rest of the states as "ranchos" or "provincial." That disparity was particularly highlighted during the last century, and the nonsensical hate for it has been passed on.
Mexico City has a fugly, beautiful and fun side, but truth be told, it has it all - specially the best pastor tacos on this galaxy

Thank you. Yeah, I'm certainly trying the traditional ways and doing normal outreach.

I'd just like to hear if anyone has different ideas. For example, if I was in the U.S. i'd join SMB communities, perhaps rotary or things like that.

Orgs like that are not a fit here as most members would be outside my target criteria.

I'm curious to see if anyone has any ideas or has lived here and knows any potential similar groups.

There's this really cool social/professional networking site that I use to meet people and make connections. You build a professional profile with all your experience and then go out and connect with other professionals. Super easy to use- you can even do this thing where you advise people during your morning walks by taking selfie videos and sharing wisdom. I'll drop the link here- Linkedin.com

Tinder remains the most popular dating app here; besides that, professionally speaking you ought to buckle up - sales cycles are different, do hit LinkedIn tho
