New deal gong/bell/drum - yay or nay?

I've worked at companies that had a bell you rang or gong you hit when a deal closed, I've worked at companies that had a scoreboard and win music play across all global offices and I've worked at companies who have nothing. I, myself, quite like a little celebration for a win but I know A LOT of managers and salespeople who find it obnoxious and hate it.

Thoughts? Yay or nay?

I like the "gong." We used to have music go off when a deal closed.ย  Each rep gets to pick a song.ย  I could change my songs when I was OOO and play something funny for a kick.ย ย

It annoyed a lot of the non-sales folks in the open office, lol.ย  Now that we're wfh, we have a gong slack channel.ย  I like bc we can give shout outs to all the other depts that helped us get the deal done.ย  And we post gifs with it.ย

I miss the money gun when sales team won competitions.ย ย

I hear we got a bubbly champagne blaster now.ย  I can't wait!

All about the money gun. Pretty douchy, but also, maybe the best? Lol

One of my buddies is a sales manager and his team has this. Our group of friends from college endlessly shittalk it.

I hate this. It's not different or unique anymore like it was. Feels like manufactured celebration

Curious to know, how do you/your team recognise wins or celebrate?

I have one of these on my desk in my home office. It's stupid...but I only hit it when I close a deal...and I get satisfaction out of it.ย

UPDATE: Noticed they are currently unavailable...but there's a ton of others like it.ย

I like it as I enjoy hyping my coworkers when they deserve it and feeling recognized when I do. Not a necessity and current office doesn't do anything, but it's fun.

My current office doesn't really do much. A summary of the deal in a Slack channel and that's about it. I'm with you, I like to celebrate others, make them feel good, motivate the team. Would be nice to have something in place remotely. Maybe I'll get my own gong lol

Man, I've been deprived of a money gun celebration! Gonna need to add that to the suggestion box when the office reopens!

I do really enjoy win music. It annoys every one else in the office but I love a little DJ Khaled blaring "all I do is win, win, win no matter what!!" Haha.

It is important to celebrate wins and provide shoutouts to people/teams that helped with the assist. Internal slack channel or email is great for global companies and lots of people working remotely.ย ย

We do win music and a little huddle with your sales team to high five/brag a bit. For large sales or multiple sales in one day, we add drinking beer to the mix.

I have one on my table and have the temptation to hit it every time I pass by but the only time I hit is when I win a deal.. This temptation is another sales pressure ;)ย

I think it's a great idea - one must celebrate every success and such a routine would definitely help! :)

I'm not a fan but I know a lot of people who like it. Seems gimmicky to me. I do like some of the programs out there that can display leader boards on the TVs around the office and other key metrics to make the whole sales team more competitive but clearly, I'm a nerd. Ringing a gong or something is definitely fun, but gets old when you're crushing deals. I would get so busy I would forget to ring it, gotta get that commish rolling.ย

I'm with you on the leaderboards. All automated, plays win music, keeps you aware of your competition, I feel you.

For companies with younger salespeople, yes. It's exciting and fun and helps your team celebrate.

Once you get older though...I honestly don't even get a rush when I close a deal anymore so I don't want to see this shit in an office.

annoying but if it helps some people great... as long as it is not too loud and disturbs a call.

I like it up, but understand that it can be disruptive to a degree. It's great for morale and a ton of fun but doesn't need to be earth shatteringly loud. We would do "walk up songs" and hit the gong.ย

I introduced whacking a gong when you got the initial meeting just so the whole team got excited for a split second. It can change a day, especially If it's a few rings. Working from home we still use Gong gifs on discord...it's the little things.ย

I worked at an organization that used a module within SFDC to play a song clip that the rep could pick with details of the deal. That would stream on the TVs in the office, but remote EEs could view from their computer as well if they visited or kept that page up on their screen.ย

At my current company, we send a sales announcement with various details to an email distribution that goes out to the entire sales organization, sales leaders and a few from other depts. This prompts the dreaded 'Reply All' congratulatory messages, but I guess it's a good way to get visibility to some other areas of the company.ย

Our team also has a group chat on Teams where we will celebrate wins and have some fun side banter.ย

Personally, I would prefer the notification via the SFDC module so there is no email reply and if we wanted to throw out some extra commentary, we could do so within our Teams chat. I could do without the flood of email replies.ย

Nah i prefer the Salesforce: Closed/Won nut drop that sends out to the entire staff when we close a big deal.

I'd prefer to have DJ Khalid on a retainer to perform "All I Do Is Win" every time someone in the office closes a deal, but that seems unlikely.ย

Guess a gong will have to suffice.ย

I hate a gong and I am not one for something after every deal.

Once you hit target yes, but if you're in an enterprise team you going be waiting a while, I suppose.

Depends on the environment. A physical gong in a small office is super disruptive. Something digital is better in that case. If all or hybrid virtual, something that pushes to each employee is really cool

There is nothing I hated more about my early sales career than the use of a gong. I worked at an SMB marketing startup/cold call factory where every 500 dollars of revenue earned = one hit of the gong. Some people would close a 5k deal and literally smash the thing 10 fucking times in a row. Mind you....i sat about 8 feet from the gong....so I was forced to hide under my desk and mute my call MID DEMO to try and continue my spiel despite the ludicrous gong bashing behind me.ย  I still have PTSD from this ...If i see a Gong in an office, I almost immediately feel disdain for the company and assume their product is trash..
