New here and new in sales

This is my first job as a salesperson. Any advice, considering the current market changes?

Welcome! There are a lot of great resources on here for how to hit the ground running in sales, but my advice has always been to read a few books and determine what kind of sales methodology works for you -- or use whatever your company provides for you. There are countless 'sales books' blog posts and whatnot out there, but the usual suspects are:
Challenger Sale
SPIN Selling
Never Split The Difference
etc.

I'd also HIGHLY recommend Extreme Ownership as one of the first books you read. It will help define you as a seller.

Welcome to the club! Highly recommend the books @salesnerd listed and I'd start with the Challenger Sale.

Secondly, the biggest advice I can give is that when you are talking to someone while in an SDR position, talk to them like a real person and they (For the most part) will talk to you like one too.

If you 100% read off script, sound robotic, even overly happy on an initial call, your prospect can get turned off pretty quickly.

Welcome to sales! The biggest advice I can give you is to be careful who you take advice from. There may be members on your team that are sitting at the table of lost dreams and will seek to get you to join them to complain about horrible and unfair things are. Everyone in sales has come across them and they will offer no value to you. Listen to the people at the top of the leaderboard and find out what makes them different.

Listen to managers and high up people, I have found that other newer people in my position can try not be helpful to get more sales themselves

You're fortunate enough to have this community to lean on. Share what's working / what you're struggling with! Also check out the topics in the "resources" section - lots of awesome materials shared via g-drive.

In addition to a few books, seek mentorship from other sales reps at your current company. While books can help, sales is not a one size fits all career and you'll need to take what your most successful reps are doing and put them into practice! Be a sponge! Best of luck!

For me, the initial few years as an inside rep were the most challenging(also the most fun!). It’s not natural to make 100+ calls to strangers, almost all of which don’t want to talk to you. That said, I was doing it with a group of young, hungry, individuals in NYC so we definitely played hard as much as we worked hard. That was the fun part. As you progress in your career, the selling will become more strategic, more exciting, and you can/will have the opportunity to make a lot of $$$. So get comfortable being uncomfortable those first few years, stay curious/positive, and enjoy the ride!

1. Sell a product you believe in or you'll fail
2. Be patient both in your deals and career
3. Don't ever think about going into enablement
4. Max your ESPP (if you have it)
