New Job - Same Sector

Hello!

SO I have finally left the dungeon of my first company and moved onwards and upwards to better things. My new role is within the same sector (retail) as my previous company but selling a different service.

The new company is a very well known, international company but in the UK it still is growing, an almost established start-up you could say.

As I will literally be selling this service to 70% of the same people, is there any advice you lot have to how to approach it?

For example, I was very active on LinkedIn with the target people in my previous role, so how do I go about reconnecting over the phone, email, linkedin etc to not just people I have sold to but also people that will know my name yet didn't go forward with the previous sale?

Congrats buddy!

I'd start doing intro, see if they remember me, if not I will remind them who the hell I amย  and then asking how things are going on for them.ย

I would probe to understand their pain points and what they think their ideal solution to be (but I won't speak about my product to them). Would take it slowly.

Thanks!ย

That does make sense, I think as this new company is well known it may create a better atmosphere compared to an unknown one.ย

thanks again!ย

New gig or product aside, people are more inclined to deal with a name they know or remember so just be honest about why you made the change and it's better for you b/c its better for the client.

Since I left my previous employer, I find I'm connecting with the same people I've worked with in the past.ย  ย I don't discuss my specific reasons for leaving the previous company, but do use it (at the appropriate time) to discuss what's great about what I'm currently selling and how excited I am to be working with the new solution.ย  ย I also position myself as a resource with experience in the market as a whole.

It's a small world - if you hang around for a while, you'll run into the same people over and over.

First off, that's awesome! Congrats! And it's even more awesome that 70% of the same people are your targets. And no harm in reaching out to them and spinning it as, "Hey, we were talking about X, and I'd still recommend that for {problem they were trying to solve}, but Y will be your contact moving forward. Now I'm at Z and I made the move because {reasons why it's the best thing to help them}."
