New Team Mates

Two new people are starting at my small start-up. One above me and one below me (Various reasons why I am not in the above role, external factors) I am going to have to train both the person above and below...how do you approach your boss/CEO in a way to suggest that you need a role/title change or pay rise if this is happening without sounding like a dick?

Why would you sound like a dick. Youโ€™re training important people. If you take extra responsibility that should mean somethingย

By that I mean, new people come in, I need a role change (been there two years) sometimes think it's a 'new role for the sake of it' type of thing.ย
But yes, you are 100% right!ย

The way you just said it, I'm taking on more responsibility(probably not in your job description), and in doing so my expectation is that I will be paid more for having to spend time training. If it was them they'd do the exact same thing and understand.ย

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
"Hey, I don't have the bandwidth to do this. If I'm extending my working hours, I'm going to need some increases in certain areas to make this feasible."

I've been through this before--and I am going to say something you probably won't' like You don't need a title change if you aren't changing your job responsibilities in total.

Account Executives that also train their BDRs on the market by having them call shadow, participate in small training exercises, improve product experience, etc, aren't suddenly something different. They are still AEs that help get new hires up to speed.

Unless you are going to become the defacto training person, leaving behind everything you do today, then why would you get a title change? Is that something that is even on the table?

This is par for the course for any small start-up. Keep track of everything you do, and the success these people have after your training and at the end of the year ask for a raise/promotion. Don't cry now, you haven't done anything yet.ย
