Next Role Predicament

okay I really need some sound advice here from more established sales people than me.

i am currently interviewing internally for two roles: one is a commercial ISR overlay type role on a cloud team and the other is an Enterprise SR that is targeted to hunt and bring in net new logos to the company. the commercial role is remote where I would travel occasionally for trainings, enablement workshops, and meeting customers while the ENT role I would need to relocate to Seattle.

Seattle is great and all, but I currently live in SoCal. i don't even know if I'm allowed to say my current location so plz don't ban me for this, I'm just hella stressed on what to do. there's pros and cons to both but I think the enterprise role would be way better as it's a better title and I'm assuming pay as well? i don't know the compensation since they're being sus on giving me full details.

the recruiter told me both hiring managers want to extend an offer to me, but I have to decide which role I want since they don't give you competing offers internally. any advice on which route I should go? or just general questions I should be asking? I've been in sales < 2 years in a customer success role, mid 20s, and have built a great brand within the company. I don't know if I should pass up the enterprise acquire role in case I will have to wait longer for another opportunity but im so hesitant on relocating since I just moved to SoCal end of last year. Both managers are great and I would be happy joining either team with them as leaders.

any advice or questions I should consider would be lovely. thanks and sorry for the word vomit

EDIT: I went around the recruiter and told the hiring manager for the enterprise role I would like to know the comp. seemed like the recruiter was being the dodgy one, and the hiring manager was transparent. i also told him that the only hurdle I'm facing right now is relocating for various reasons, and he told me he would give me a travel budget to go to the PNW so I don't have to move. with these things, it's a no brainer. i picked this role over the ISR role! thank you all for your advice, comments, and support. this was my first post in the war room. peace n luv to you all

Demand they tell you comp.

I don’t understand why he thinks I would pick a role without looking at the comp. It doesn’t make sense to me.

Exactly. These are both internal promotions right?

Go to the sources (hiring manager). Ask them both (separate) how they expect you to choose without giving you basic info.

Exactly. They're not giving you all the info you need to make a major decision like this.

Ugh I really tried bringing it up and the recruiter is being weirdly annoying about it

Your heart clearly seems to be in the Enterprise Role. Ask them the comp man! I mean, just ASK. Negotiate till they budge. Everyone has a tipping point, ensure you at least hit that before you accept the offer.

These things are way bigger in our heads than they are in reality. Nobody gets offended on an expectation of a comp that they'd rescind a current offer.

<TLDR> Ask

For me, based on your experience and the remote/on site caveat, I'd take the commercial isr (that said, I don't know the salaries for either).

would they help cover some costs of relocating? If they dont then I would take the one where you get to stay where you are.

do you think ether one will have a bigger effect on your career progression internally in the future?

I think I would get a relo package.

Well, I def thought ENT carries more weight than the commercial ISR role, so I’m assuming that’ll give me more “street cred” down the line, but again, I’m really new to sales so I’m unsure if this is in my head or actually true

@salesgirlddYouare leaving too much up to chance...

You "think" you're getting a relocation package. You either are or aren't. And if you are, you need to know how much.

You don't know the comp for either role. I'd tell them straight up "how can I decide without knowing comp?" then just go on mute and stare at them...

Don't make major life decisions with so little info.

Any way you can negotiate remote work?

I asked the interviewer and the hiring manager and it seems like they want someone living in district. I’d be covering the PNW and they said it’d be easier for customer visits, happy hours, partner visits, etc. but who really knows how much of that I’d be doing?

They’re saying things are going back to normal. But, I moved to CA for this sales job and I have met my team I support twice in person for the past two years. I don’t want it to be me moving to SEA and then the same thing happens where I’m just WFH and doing zoom meetings

I’m surprised they didn’t give you the comp earlier in the process.

Regardless, I think it depends on if you’re willing to relocate. Seattle is (can be) great but so is SoCal. Do you have any other reasons to be in Seattle behind the job? Any reasons to stay in SoCal beyond your current job?

Beyond that, the opportunity is important. Just from your description, comp and relocation assure, I would take the Enterprise role. It opens up more future doors.

Good luck!

Yes I would love the hiking, skiing, and outdoorsy aspect of the state.

SoCal for sunshine and tacos. I will def miss that.

Candid opinion - I’ve never been a big fan of sellers moving for an individual contributor role (unless its to a place they have actively wanted to move). Your company WILL NOT hesitate to push your out if you have a rocky road. I’ve seen it happen too many times where reps move, and then are looking for a gig in their new location (which they didn’t exactly choose)
