Nice watches under 2.5k?

What's up savages,

Been wanting to get a watch for a bit. I know theres some ballers here with APs, Rolex and Pateks.

I'm not there yet, plus, I spend a lot of time in Mexico, which is pretty safe for the most part but would generally advise against using an expensive watch in public places.

Anyway, I was thinking about a Tag Heuer, which is about 2K.

Any suggestions?

This is the way. A client bought me my Seiko solar Chrono dive watch over a decade ago. Wear the watch daily, get compliments all the time on the "patina" aka faded pepsi dial. I'm a Seiko fanboy for life now.

They absolutely can but don’t expect something absolutely stunning or relatively flashy. The lower ends are aficionado watches. I see them come up for auction right around $2500 once and a while.

You can call some jewelers and/or pawn shops and tell them what you want to a T and budget and they’ll often hunt for you.

used tag's can be found around the 2k mark. Tudor is another good budget option that can be had in that price range. I'll occasionally see used omega's in that range as well but they're few and far between.

Check out Tissot if you want a good quality watch under 1000. they're my go to. Seiko also makes some really nice watches at the sub-1000 price point.

I have a tag and its cool to brag about and all, but honestly I never wear it. my $300-500 Tissot and seiko watches are what always end up being on my wrist when I leave the house. I may grab a Rolex one day just to be able to say I have one. But for now my tag is my only over 1000 watch I plan on owning.

Check out Nomos (Tangente) if you like smaller, simple faces with not a lot of clutter. Solid German brand, have a couple in my collection and am a big fan personally. They start around 2K I believe.

TBH buying new means that you're likely taking a big depreciation hit right off of the bat if you're looking for something that will hold value. Look on Chrono24 for used models and that way you'll still get great quality while paying less upfront.

As an fyi - I have a Swiss Army watch. Valued at over $1k. Bought it from a TV prop auction site for $75 (including overpriced shipping). Spent another $25 on a new battery (incl. cleaning). Runs great.

I share 'cause you don't need to spend a fortune to know the time and to have an expensive toy.

Not at all a fan of movado. You can get a used Breitling in that price range. I’ve got a Chronomat Evolution that I like better than the Rolexes that I have. Oris makes some nice timepieces in that range as well. Shinola is also coming on with some great watches well under your target price.

Someone gave me the term “purse watches” long ago just meaning if they’re not a watch brand first then you’re definitely just paying for the name. Not any quality or movement. You have a long road ahead if you’re getting into watches. 100% suggest looking at grey market (used) like crown and caliber. My first good watch was an omega speedy reduced that I got for $1800 and one of the best I’ve ever owned.
