No experience

What would you do if you applied for a SDR role with no "years of" requirement. Description says want to start a career! Then you go through 4 interviews and at the  last one the Director says you have no experience so why are you here? Then they send you a reject email saying they went with someone with some B2B sales experience. They are still hiring.

The misalignment between job req/recruiting and the sales org is a red flag...

SDR is an entry level role, so I don’t get it. You should only have to prove that you’re hungry and have the ability to take a beating and keep going. Rocky Balboa would have made a great SDR if he could speak properly.

So true. I even went to a tech sales bootcamp! I’m trained, but the dude wouldn’t even turn on his camera when he saw me.

I’m sorry you went so far into the process with them to hear this crap, but 2 good things came out of it:
Interview practice
Dodging a bullet
Interviewing is a 2 way street. You should look for a place that wants to & does a good job of developing their employees. Based on this last round, it’s clear that’s not the case with this place.
Thank you. Next.

Those places blow dicks in my experience. I had one who “vetted” a bootstrapped start up with no idea what there product was and really needed a head of sales not an SDR

It's not like this everywhere. You were talking to a moron. There are a lot out there.

Thank you! I did send that company this feedback. And onward and upward. I have few new interviews now progressing well.

Great to hear.   "No experience necessary" should literally mean that.

Good luck!

Was that a SaaS? I feel it's very important that you bro your homework. Even though you don't have experience, it's important to prove that you know what the work is going to be like and how you will be able to achieve. You got to tell them what they want to listen.

There are some great articles in Bravado academy, browse through them for some insights on cracking interview.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I would say that's an objection to overcome. "To get experience by working my ass off and launch a career" probably would've been a solid answer.

This director was probably a douche but that's how to handle that in the future.

I never understand when this happens for SDR roles. They are generally entry level and shouldn’t require any experience. So annoying… sorry you had to go through this whole process.

Annoyingly this is becoming more the norm.

I would try going through recruitment centres which specialise in graduates or people with no experience. Also, there are lots of recruiters that also specialise within this area.

Problably good riddance. If they can not get that right you do not want to work there. Also work for people who believe in you / want to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Gross! I hate when people put someone through multiple interviews when they know that person is missing whatever it is they're looking for. Then on top of that, the fact that the job description didn't list that as a requirement, but it actually was, is extra icky.

Had the same thing happen to me when I applied for a role after two interviews and they finally picked up I had no formal college education but more than enough experience to do the job. The company had a strict policy on college education. Anyways dodged a bullet.

Oh man! They really need to stop wasting our time! I had a great interview today and verified all the requirements they required.

Companies will reject candidates for one reason, come up with a completely different reason on the fly (they've got canned responses for this sort of thing).

Definitely ask for more details as to any other reasons why you weren't offered the position.

If they lean on the B2B experience excuse, say:
"I'm disappointed I didn't get this job, but I am determined to get into this field. How can I make myself a better candidate for similar roles - given my lack of experience?"

Their answer should reveal more than the initial brush off.

Idiotic situations like the one you went through are what come to mind when I hear the term “income inequality.” It might just be that there’s a demonstrable stupidmotherfucker sliding scale that we all exist on, and these people would be towards the bad end (so it would seem). <br>Know your worth HOOP; fuck them kids.
