No leads while on vacation?

our VP wants any rep that takes time off to be taken out of the lead pool during that time. What do we think? We do have a sunset clause, so we try to reply within 24 hours.. but don’t we also deserve to be “off” when we are “off”? His theory is that if you are in sales- taking a vacation and not being connected- then you’re in the wrong Job… (didn’t need him to tell me that hahahaha jk jk ).. thoughts? Interested to hear feedback as currently working on a new plan for MJ ream.

Yeah that’s eff’d up but I’ve had that happen to me too. He’d be better served saying you don’t get leads while on vacay bc they need a response immediately from a rep. That’s the better way to phrase it.

Yah I see both sides of it as I’m selling and managing the team. But I don’t want reps to miss out on leads (especially in named accounts) bc they take well earned time off. :) but 100% leads need to be actioned ASAP. When the phone rings we say “that’s money calling, better get it” lol

Seems like the bigger we get the better we do the more changes to comp and such happens…. His delivery needs a lot of work.

From a managerial perspective, leads need to be optimized (called ASAP - worked effectively), so I actually agree with pulling people out of a lead rotation if they are on vacation.  Remember, the leads don't belong to the AE, they belong to the company at the end of the day.

That being said, the lack of empathy in the response is no bueno, burnout is real, and there is typically some form of quota relief if a rep is taking a week off during a month.

A lot toxic . My team is just busting ass. Even the best cars need to stop for gas, right? (Don’t throw Tesla at me … I’m fragile today 😂)

I misread that - thought you asked me to not throw A Tesla at you. Like, you see I need Life Alert right? 🤣

Needing/wanting business to continue while someone is out is toxic? What is this world coming to?

agreed - very toxic. Makes me thankful for my manager right now. So currently leads are routed to people on vacation and we just get a co-worker to cover for us. I take calls for the people who are out on vacay or at least start emailing their leads to schedule a call and my co-workers do the same for me. That way no one loses a lead. Do you have a co-worker that would cover for you?

I think that's lame. If you're using any calendar scheduling tool it really shouldn't be any concern to him. It's your business if you want to block that time off where a lead will get passed to someone else with availability.

He’s lame lol. To me if we go on vacation we should Get the option to be off grid/organize a back up etc. He hates us all 😂

Saw this at my last job, the VP was getting roasted by management, so I believe he was overtly worried about leads being dropped.

Well here’s this. Our VP is also an owner. Ruler of all things . Especially the comp report

This is a terrible take from your VP. I think we are all naturally more inclined to be connected, but to force that is an old school mentality. In my region, if a lead comes in while your on vacay, your manager keeps it warm for you until you get back.

Yes!! So now I’m the coverage for my boys to ensure they get the comp. That’s what’s I’m going to pitch.

Makes so much more sense, and then people are more likely to take their PTO… and hopefully not burn out

Go find a new job. There is a way around making sure leads get followed up on and get to the appropriate rep per the routing. Just saying you don't get to access to that while you're away is bullshit.

Take out of rotation when on vacation, double up in the rotation when you return. Lead follow up needs to be optimized but if your team is on an even rotation, can’t punish people for using their days off

“Hope you enjoyed your vaca, now here’s twice as many activities to put in than before you left!” I’m kinda shocked by the responses here. It makes complete sense to take someone out of lead flow while they’re on vaca. Being quick on outreach to MQLs is statistically proven to be critical in an org that has inbound.

It’s a bit more complex as he’s included existing account that reps “own” so to speak. Sometimes they come in via the web or call in vs emails from the main contact at a company. I just want the reps to feel they get a break and don’t miss out on cold hard glen garry leads!
