No Soliciting Sign -> Do you still knock???

Literally just answered my door and had a D2D sales guy trying to sell me on new windows. He immediately commented that my windows look new, but for in a years time I might want his contact information (I'm in FL so there are hurricanes that will fuck up your windows).

I respect the hustle of door to door, but I live in a no soliciting neighborhood where my HOA forbids it and has signs. I'm always up for being an informed buyer, but I'm getting at least a knock a day from someone trying to sell windows, a roof, or solar. I'm not in the market for any of these and from salesperson to salesperson I'll usually hear them out for 2 minutes in case they have something new.

I do have one neighbor that rages about it every time I see him though lmao. He has a no soliciting sign up too, but they still knock.

So my question is: Do you think no soliciting signs ever work?

And I guess follow up, should the signs be respected?

Bonus points if you're D2D and want to share.

The ONLY time you should leave your Command Center is when you have a big deal to close.ย ย

NEVER show up, unless there is money on the table.

Therefore, those signs should never stop you.ย  They only stop the people who are chasing money on a stick.ย  Back up, and take 20 steps back.ย  If you bump into a little problem like that you're way over your skis in Activity Monitoring Management.ย  (AMM)

When you're welcome, you just get invited in.ย  They usually ask you if you want a nice little water (which obviously you refuse because you're going to finish a 6 pack for dinner).

Time is your currency.ย  If you waste it by finding buildings to sell to you've missed your boat.ย ย

Get on the next one.ย  Change your tactics and strategy today.

Automate your stack.ย  Find the systems that can produce revenue for a long-term and successful sales career.

If you are being monitored by Activity Monitoring Management, push for a new job.ย  Find a place where they value the Bravado (lack of a better word, thx) in Sales.ย  Act like you've scored a touchdown before even if you're afraid.

Leverage data and social influence around your company's internal management structure to be viewed as a Sales Visionary.

Always get asked to be there or if it's a big enough deal..ย  Let them know you will be dropping by and to have security escort you in.

But Non-Soliciting Signs keep idiots out.ย  If you are trying to get past one, you might be one of those people.

Use sniper shots.ย  Use direct message and social media to connect with the hits of dopamine to your Sales Targets.

Fill them up with dopamine and content until they ask YOU for the meeting.

If you ignore my โ€œNo solicitingโ€ sign youโ€™re gonna have a bad day.

I did D2D pest control sales the summer after college. We would say we were servicing a neighbor down the street (we weren't) and since we were already around, we were just seeing if any of the neighbors wanted in for a "discounted" price, and that we were looking to help out rather than sell. Got cussed out all the time but it worked too. Also the classic "didn't see the signs" playing dumb type explanations.

It was pretty slimy tbh, I didn't enjoy it. Our pitch was pretty deceptive too. I hate lying to sell and I wouldn't do it again.ย

In general, people didn't actually need our products whatsoever, so to create the needs we had to tell them they had/will have problems that didn't/won't exist, rather than discover a need and pitch to that. Hard to pitch ant traps if they've never had ants, so we'd say shit like, "Yeah, Bob and Paul down the street said they've never had ants either up until this summer. Looks like they're starting to move into the neighborhood; probably want to get on top of that."

We have a sign at the entrance to our neighborhood that states โ€œNo Solicitingโ€. However, no one follows it as Iโ€™ve had at least 3 pest control people and about 75-100 roofing people come by to us summer. If they catch me outside Iโ€™ll talk to them a second, mainly to get theirs and the managers contact info so I can call and try to sell their management on services. I also try to negotiate better deals than I currently have in place lol. If they get pissed I called I tell them they knocked on my front door at 7pm during dinner.

B2C- yes, they should work.
B2B- I'm going to pretend I didn't see the sign, and have been known to tell people "Oh! I'm not soliciting, I'm just trying to make an appointment!"

Usually it's a violation of a local ordinance to solicit without a solicitor's permit.

If you have the permit, you are bound by the No Soliciting sign... At least where I live.

So, if you're going D2D in my neighborhood and ignore my No Soliciting sign, you either don't have a permit or are willfully ignoring the stipulations of the permit. Either can catch you a civil fine and a talking to with the police.

Given that a background check is a condition of a solicitor's permit, and this kind of police interaction would show up there... you're risking your livelihood.

Might not be the rules everywhere, but something to consider.
