Not another virtual conference

marketing just signed me up for another virtual conference. *sigh* To those of you who have attended one or more, have you had any success? I feel like everyone hides behind their computer. For me live events are where it’s at.

Which conference type do you prefer?

In my experience, virtual conferences are a complete waste of time.

Agreed. I would rather have no conference than a virtual one.

absolutely. I'm just not seeing the return on the virtual ones. Have you had any luck at a virtual conference?

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Pretty classic example of marketing not having any ideas.

To be fair, a lot of these events are basically throwing massive upcharges if you skip out this year and come back next year vs major discounts and preferential treatment in the future if you participate now. So it might be a short-term pain, long-term gain for marketing.

In-person has the benefit of being able to run into people.

I think it really depends on the conference... is it just boring content your company puts together and calls it a conference or is it from a 3rd party?

We have a pretty good field marketing team and we have dozens of events a year- some we put on many we sponsor.

We actually get some pipeline from them, I've had a number decent meetings. Some actually converted to a few deals others are on ice to nurture but you've got to build some brand awareness somehow.

For my industry, I'd argue that in-person conferences are a waste of time and $$!  I've been to several and rarely generate new business from them.  It's great to see familiar faces, don't get me wrong.  I love enjoying old whiskey and eating gourmet food on company dollars.

My title attracts sales people, which is annoying as hell.  I end up being bothered by shitty sales people for months.  Sometimes I coach them on how shitty they are and other times I just tell them to stop calling me we are not interested in your fucking sales enablement garbage!

Sorry had to vent

I'm not anti-social.  So yeah, in person conferences.

I deeply look forward to you refining your argument not to be sent to those either post-COVID.

I've made zero sales from virtual conferences that I am aware of, so I quit participating in that.   Most people just listen while they wash their dishes, workout.

This can take 2 to 4 weeks depending on the scope of the deal. For example, if I'm responding to a government deal I have to get legal involved to review their terms etc.
