Best part of onboarding was getting to know who could answer which question for me.   Our onboarding was done inline with getting on with the job and didn't stand in my way, so I have no complaints.

Most common reason - Onboarding of SDRs is done by someone who's never been an SDR. Onboarding of AE's is done by someone who's never been an AE. How would you enable when you are disabled? How?

I’m prob in the minority here but I’m s huge enablement fan. I also work in a heavily regulated industry and with various engineer types so I feel like it’s more necessary.

Also it really depends on how your company onboards. I just started at a new company and our onboarding consisted of meeting the “Heads of” each department and teaching about the ins and outs of the business. This was huge for me since I have to work cross functionally and it makes asking for time from those leaders easier with the forced intro.

If you started as an SDR/AE at my company without onboarding enablementz you’d be totally useless

Lucky. Most enablement is counter useful, you have to know how to find real knowledge yourself

Onboarding done well can be great. Unfortunately, it seems like it's rarely done well.

Onboarding is usually dumb IMO. so much gets thrown at you, theres no way to retain it all and on job experience is irreplaceable.

That’s a tough one. My widget is highly technical but the selling is all relationship based. It’s more important to know the people in my company who can help me than know they product. And to know the right questions to ask.

the only time onboarding was helpful was my first job in tech when I was an SDR and they flew me to San Fran and actually learned how to make a cold call haha.

and i got to fly to CA for the first time so that was dope too.

every other time its just been 2- 6 weeks of being bored

When an onboarding takes too long, it does make you itch to get working and feels like getting the bull pissed off behind the closed door so it shoots out the gate.

Tbh, I started to zone out after day 2 of training. Manager tried to pull us out of trainings that weren’t relevant to us but to no avail. I only took notes when they talked about comp.
