I just got off the phone with the person who gave me the job offer originally.
- "Listen, Kirby, I think it was clear that of all the people we recently onboarded, you had the most potential to really do well."
- "You report directly to me, and I don't even have a login to be able to see the key strokes or anything like that."
- "It's not an issue of a lack of trust, it's just an issue of management."
- "I think there was a miscommunication here. We really only use that during the first few months to make sure our remote workers are really present. I don't think we even use it down the road."
- "I really feel like if you had come straight to me, we could have seen eye to eye."
I told him that I needed to trust my initial instinct: that a place that would lead with such a heavy hand of monitoring isn't a place I could trust to invest so much time and energy into long term.
However, on the inside, because I'm a spineless piece of shit, there was a part of me that SO BADLY wanted to give it another shot or negotiate it.
It's just really hard to let go, because this job had a higher earning potential than anywhere I'd ever worked, and the new job I got isn't as good honestly. But they treat me like a human being at least.
PLEASE TELL ME I'M NOT STUPID FOR QUITTING
