Anyone work for ADP? Came across their ad that they are hiring. Wondering what opinions people have of the company or if anyone has first hand experience working there.

Pros: Great sales experience if you’re new to sales. Great sales training and will teach you how to have a sales process and run a successful meeting. Will get you used to being cussed out over the phone and you’ll develop thick skin. Good benefits and if you can make it more than a year with results, your resume will be sought after moving forward.

Cons: extremely immature co-workers/environment. Product is a commodity and I found it an incredibly boring space to sell in. High turnover + thrown to the wolves (average time until turnover is 5-8 months). If you don’t perform within the first quarter, it’s sink or swim (this actually has helped me with future roles). Lower than industry average pay. Friday roll-calls are a brutal circle jerk. My entire office turned over in a two year span. A lot of your ability to make money will be determined by the CPAs/territory the VP gives you.

Yes. All of this.
Didn’t work for ADP, did work for a competitor. Grateful that it helped me break into B2B from a different industry.
Not somewhere I would want to stay for more than a year or two to get some experience.

^ This is 100% on point for many of the larger HRIS providers.

Man I don't have personal experience, but I have heard some stories. Check Glassdoor and RepVue.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
It’s a huge company but their reputation for scummy and unethical sales behavior is pretty legendary.

How’s the pay and do people hit their numbers?

Since idk which role you have your eye on it can range from 38k-68k staring as an associate district manager (ADM). As you hit certain milestones in revenue and closed deals you progress to DM, SDM, etc and your base goes up. As does your quota. The commission structure is really good if you sell. It’s tiered. So from $0-60k in revenue it’s 10%. $61-130k it’s 15%. So on and so forth. As far as people hitting their number. No not everyone will hit their number. You will if you follow the playbook and work your tail off. It’s basically a university of challenger based selling. I earned quite a bit while I was there. Regardless of the role you’re eyeing in your first year I recommend referring a lot of your deals to seasoned closers at your particular office/market as you learn the product and role. Fail often. Fail forward. Dial. Dial. Dial. Have a very short term memory. And make sure you log all your opportunities in SF bc as you close deals there will be people from your own company that will try to snake their way in getting split in. Leadership will make you feel like “family” but don’t be naive.. it’s a large publicly traded company that will grow at all costs. Know that you’re expendable. Even if you are at 200% of your quota. I can go on and on, but overall it is a great company to work for. I learned and earned a lot. Lmk if u got specific questions. Happy to help.

What do you mean by referring deals to seasoned closers? Also what does a typical deal cycle look like with big accounts.

Referring deals to seasoned closers = you’re new. You’ll be assigned a mentor who is a senior Dm and you book appointments and you bring them on your deal so it closes. Unless you want to do it yourself.

Again, depending on the role which I don’t know you’re looking at the sales cycle varies. If you’re role is SBS then you’re sales cycle is a day to 2 weeks on average. If you’re in majors then it can be 1-3 months. If you’re in HRO CS then it’s anywhere from a day if you’re good or 6 months. If you’re in HRO TS then it’s a month to 12 months. Could be more.

What is the role you saw on the ad? I won’t ask again lol

Depending on your role deal size is $1.1k - $1mm + in rev.

Deal size would probably be mid market. What’s the culture like? Is it a burn and churn and people leave? Do you see a career and growth within ADP? Are there allot of politics when it comes to promotions?

Just about everyone I worked with there most of them perineal closers and were at Presidents clubs with me have left due to politics mainly. Definitely politics when it comes to promotions. By promotion I mean going from an IC to sales leadership. Yes there are consistent tenured employees that bring in $1mm W2s YoY. I was there from June 17,2017 and left February 2020 and raked in a wealth of knowledge and was able to go places and do things w the money I made. I regretted jumping ship at first during Q4 when I was already at pclub. Mostly bc that slut coronavirus. But 2 years removed I’m in a happier spot where I’m not dealing with the politics of fighting ur own colleagues off stealing ur deals. It’s a big box public company they will almost always swim than sink with or without you. In my time there I made 2 p clubs, pinnacle, super starts and went from ADM to Senior Elite DM. It sounds like your going to be selling WFN which is 50-149 ee space. Friday roll calls are for SBS reps. Don’t take that job. Majors aka mid market is a good division. I was in HRO selling comprehensive services. I killed it. But I also let it cost me personal relationships bc if you’re a closer and not around closers ur SE and VP will work you to the bone. Money isn’t everything. All n all I would 100% recommend 2 years at adp and treat it like a university I still carry a lot of knowledge I learned at adp in how I sell today and drive results.

Not posting this pic to brag as it doesn’t serve me any purpose other than being as brutally honest to someone I wish I had prior to me joining and navigating the inner web of adp. If I can accomplish what I did in the time I was there so can you. It doesn’t need to be your final employer you retire from. It can be. One good thing that came from my time at adp is after I left I did a side hustle of helping people with no to little background in sales get hired at adp and made some extra cash from it while enjoying helping others get into sales who really wanted it. Buckle up you’re in for a ride and can determine how that ride goes for you

*not sponsored* A coworker of mine worked there for 15+ years in the sales dept - great carrier path as she left as the Global Dir Sales Enablement. She left because the person that referred her back in the days to ADP moved into this company as a stakeholder. The benefits are decent and the life-work balance seems to be one of the strongest values there.

Ofc this is just one picture from a "happy ending" standpoint. I think the best course of action to get an updated sneak peek is to check g2.com to validate the customer's satisfaction overall with their value prop and product and then Glassdoor to validate the other side of the coin.

Good luck.
