Opinion on having your Boss on a demo with you just to 'help'?

I think it depends on "help". Is your boss asking to join to micromanage, asking to join to provide genuine coaching and just shadow, or are you the one asking for them to join?

I think as long as the boss' intent is not to diminish your role and micro manage, it is all positive. Good exposure for you to showcase your skills and you can also use your boss as the "bad cop" if needed if the conversation requires one.

I routinely bring in my AD and/or VP to calls depending on the situation.

I think it's a win! I don't think you introduce him as "your boss" but you can introduce him as a product specialist.

More than likely he wants to be there to help and coach.

As long as they're better than you at running the demos. If you're more capable, then no need for them.

Best way to ramp up your knowledge, there's a reason (usually) they're a level above you.

Lean on their expertise and learn.

Not a fan, usually. Though I'd consider it if the prospect was involving multiple stakeholders from their side on the demo. So the number of people isn't so lopsided in one direction.

I always answer "this is NAME" for an unrecognized number. Presumably your messaging is the same/similar enough [unless you have a broad portfolio and are pitching very different things to different personas]...thank them for callback and go into the standard pitch as you would have if they had picked up on the first ring
