Options besides Sales?

Slinging SaaS is great and all, but I think we all think about getting out of Sales at one point or another. The Quarter-of-Quarter grind, zero security, general burnout....probably not sustainable for 20+ years. But then you realize everything else pays way less.

Question: If you were to consider leaving Sales........what other options are there?

Honestly (gonna get some hate for this) marketing. If more salespeople moved to marketing and actually understood what an MQL was, things would run a lot smoother

Have to agree with you!

Marketing is best executed with first-hand experience of the sales process.

I've always been attracted to a potential role in BD.  It's sales, but not in the same strict sense (at least from what I've seen).  "Partnerships" roles can also straddle this line.  Seems to be like a logical jump.

I’ve definitely thought about this too - especially knowing I want to start a family soon and the types of stress I already take on.

If your company is open to it, set up mini mentoring sessions with different department leads around the company so you can try to explore a bit and see what you like and don’t like. I’ve been doing them for the last month and it’s been beneficial - if anything I’m learning new roles and teams but also getting on leaderships radar and knowing who they are as people.

I'd probably go down the account management road. The money isn't as good as it is in sales but I have the skillset for it and there's less stress involved.

Training and onboarding new clients after they have signed a deal, i.e. client success manager, etc. Salesforce has a lot of roles like this.

Account (relationship) management roles - ensuring your clients are being served and cared for during projects.

You could convert to the dark side, and look at a career in marketing. #Gross

I've toyed with the idea of doing a coding boot camp. I have a friend that did it and secured a $140k job after completion but it is a full-time 6 month boot camp and it took months of applications and interviews before he got the salary he wanted

If you have developed enough technical knowledge you can try a lateral move into Sales Engineering? Lower ceilings in earnings but higher floors

Start my own business for sure... definitely not more security or less stress, but at least I'd be my own boss and able to make my own decisions.

Just curious, any of you ever gave it a thought to get into Product?

I know some people that have gone the AE>SE or AE>Product route and they all love it.

I've thought about Procurement + SalesOps, but nothing major.

Has anyone made the transition from driving revenue/paid subscribers to product adoption (no revenue)?

Currently made the transition and looking to discuss...
