Other than a sales related role... what would you like to be doing instead?

Going through the typical rollercoaster of the sales cycle and hitting a slump got me thinking about what I'd rather do instead of sales.

I feel like i've been in sales for so long now, I don't know if i'd be able to jump into a role that wouldn't have anything to do with sales.

So if you could (or have gone) from a sales role to something else what would it be and why?

I mean baseball was my sport but Euro football (soccer) or NBA would be very, very fun.

Iโ€™d get a desk job at a large bank making $100k base and some annual bonuses. I have a lot of friends who do that and itโ€™s really stable, easy to move up; but also really boring.ย

this sounds boring but a decent way to lead a more 'relaxed' life.
what's the desk job consist of doing?

Head of Sales
The skillset you build as a sales person is useful at nearly every company. Tenacity, communication, overcoming objections - you can thrive in many roles that need those skills.

My wife is an executive director at a non-profit. She built a board, sources sponsors, puts on fundraising events, runs a camp. She's a 100% a sales person, but gets zero commission other than the fact that she truly helped a community in need.ย

If money isn't your primary motivation and you just need to build something you believe in, there are lots of options out there.

Started her career in non-profit and really learned the landscape. She built her career through community engagement, then into development (fundraising) roles, ultimately unlocking a position as an executive director. The best place to start would be volunteering with an organization you believe in, potentially working into a board position.

I went from luxury sales to a complete opposite type job. Like outdoors all day. Also scary and hard. Was fun for a bit... missed sales. Was a good break.

Nothing. Sales for life. I don't think I'll be able to find another job that pays this well without a specialized degree or decades of experience.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I have my retirement plan so I would go do that if money didn't matter.

If it did, political or non-profit fundraising seems like a cool thing to do with my skillset.
