My coworker just came back from vacation and has marble mouth(fumbling on the phones) and won't stop talking about how he is not able to hit his goals for the week. I tried to encourage him but he keeps giving me back negative feedback and how he is at risk about losing his job. Do I still try to help him or do I just put in my airpods and pretend to ignore him?

PS: He just yelled at me to "stop playing war room"

I think the best way to help someone who isn't hitting their quota, is to listen to the calls together and identify possible improvements on the calls itself! Make him give his own feedback, asking him what could have gone better and what went well and compliment this ideas with your own thoughts!

If he's your friend, take him aside and give him a quick pep-talk and a new trick to try. If you don't like him tell him you think he's doing great and you're sure it'll work out and not to stress- then put your airpods in and keep playing war room.

If he welcomed the challenging situation he is in while still confiding his worry around performance then by all means help him, but it seems as if he has lost the fight already and is looking for a savior.
