Passed over for AE - WWYD?

What would you do if you were in my shoes? Curious to hear your thoughts.

My context: I've been a BDR at my org for 18 months (overall BDR experiences >2 years) and applied to AE. Had my presentation - VP says I didn't make it for my business unit, but he's happy to refer me to another AE role within the company. I have 2 AE final round interviews, but nothing means anything until an offer is in hand...

I mean it sounds like you’re still in the running, but did they hire someone else instead of you for the other business unit? If no then I’d say they don’t think you’re ready, if yes, they think there’s better options.

Finished Q1 as #2. Always been in the top 3 of a team of 15 - performance has been good and I've had some monster deals come in.

They said "work on storytelling and do better discovery. You did a good job, but it didn't wow us".

I've kept in touch with former colleagues who quit and said the grass isn't greener on the other side.

Seems like you're pretty close to getting that AE role. If I were you, I'd stick it out, but set a reasonable timeline for yourself (i.e. If I don't get AE by November, I'll start looking at other options).
