Pay Curve Changes during Q1

Company I work at changed their pay curve halfway though the 3rd month of the quarter. They also increased my quota almost 300% compared to last year. The new pay curve requires me to hit 50% of my goal before receiving a commission check. I think there’s a slim chance I can hit these goals but with goals this aggressive does anything think it’s time to think about a company move? I don’t have a ton of experience negotiating pay scale or quota so any advice is appreciated.

I'm not usually the "you should look for another job" kind of person, but... this is not good.

Changing a comp plan? Fine.
Changing it mid-period? No.

Increasing quota? Fine.
Tripling quota without a commensurate increase in support? No.

Decelerators? Fine.
50% cliff to get paid anything? No.

This screams poor management. Might be time to polish the old resume up...

Yeah I’ve already been cheffing up a resume. Management has been steadily declining and our most senior team members are jumping ship. They justified the quota increase with the fact that our SDR numbers have been increasing but the SDRs focus on local office, not channel. So I’m stuck here with a higher quota still getting dogshit leads lol. I have to do my own sales development, which is fine but some help would be killer.

When you see senior people leaving that's usually a bad sign. Again, maybe there's a reason for it, but usually when I hear all these red flags it's time to pack up and move on.

Heard that. Their quota directly corresponds with mine, thus the exodus of our leadership. I’m looking around now.

I’m looking at a move. Been at the company for 2 years since getting out of school. Had sales experience in college so was crushing the entry level quotas, now not so much,

It's much better to be somewhere that makes it realistic to hit goals, not gives you a slim chance.  Life is too short to work for bad comp plans.  Amiright @salesnerd

I agree with @salesnerd I see in my industry a lot of companies cut pay 50% and my "competition" or business partners are giving me their CV looking for a job. Get out asap.

Just to be sure, there was no catalyst for these changes right? A new product that is going to print money? Acquisition? I'm more concerned with the 300% increase in target than anything here, especially with no clear justification for said increase.

No visible catalyst. Product suite is the same old thing, same territory, same channel partners. My business vertical in the hospitality industry lost a ton of money last year and it seems like they’re trying to make it up by raping the sales team.

Yeah, sounds like it’s time to start passing the resume around. Just from an outsider looking in, you are in a no win situation here

Increasing quota by 300% esp halfway through the quarter. Sounds fishy. I would start looking. Poor leadership

So there’s been an update on this. They reduced my quota back to a reasonable number and went back to the linear pay curve we previously had. I spoke up about it and told them about the pain the entirety of the sales team was feeling and they admitted it was a mistake! I think my company realized they were about to lose a huge chunk of their salesforce....

What major actions would you take on month ends and quarter ends to hit your quota and also increasing the logos of yours from your pipeline?
