PiP

Started a new company and new industry beginning 2021 and love the change of roles. Still in sales but admittedly the first 3 months were to get ramped and understand what the heck I was even selling. Because of that my metrics are far behind and I won't hit quota without a couple of huge wins that are 50/50.

That said i was put on a 2 month pip and there have been rumors of vaccine layoffs for those who don't have the vaccine (even though i am 100% remote)

The first thought was fix the problem and grow my business, as $$ solves everything in sales. But the timing of things makes me wonder if I should be looking around. Thoughts?

If there's a potential for layoffs for any reason, that's enough to have me looking for other opportunities. Especially with the job market as hot as it is right now.

not sure why the downvotes but I have a medical condition that puts me at a higher risk of death by receiving the vaccine than if I don't so since I am assuming you aren't my doctor and you don't know my medical history (since that's not public information) I will take care of my health the way I see fit for my body and you should do the same :) I wish you only the best!

Ive always operated of the mind that you cant PIP someone thats hitting baseline metrics in their first year. Especially if they are coming into a new industry, BUT they have to be making progress and working their ass off to get better.

If those second 2 pieces arent there then its not a skill development issue and there may be a large fit problem that needs to be addressed.

If I were you I would start looking.

Tough to blindly suggest since I have no idea where your experience lies but I work in SaaS and its great.

Beyond that I dont really blindly look for jobs. Lean into your network and reach out to past leaders you respected, other AE's who were successful that you would want to work with again etc.

I'd be looking too. Is your role 100% remote, but possibly involving customer-facing meetings? An employer might mandate vaccines for that reason as well.

Sorry to hear, this is a rough situation. My company currently has a couple people on PiPs that IMO, haven't had enough time to get trained on the product, figure out who their ICP is and build pipeline. It makes me question WTF is going through leadership's brains when making decisions to put people on PiPs.

Like @funcoupons said, I would definitely at least look around and throw your name in the hat for some new opps. No harm in doing so!

Yeah, putting people on a PIP in their first year is a shitty move unless the salesperson is not even putting in the effort to learn and improve.

Thanks all, I love the income and have been trying to make it work but realistically i havent even been working a full year and my CSM has been out for 3 of the 10 months so far this year as well and if you put someone on a pip i would think it would be for at minimum a quarter to turn it around. where would you recommend looking?

Big-time red flag. Anytime you get put on a PIP it is merely documentation so that you can be let go if it is deemed necessary. If I were you I would be looking hard. Use all of the channels, LinkedIn, indeed, even Google will pick up some open roles off of company sites.

I was recently in the exact same scenario as you (but didn't survive the cut)

First- is your pip actually attainable?

Second- Be aware that management may see this as a 'fit' issue and have crosshairs on you. I would 100% start looking

but are they giving you specific metrics to hit?
like "Book X number of demos, close Y amount in revenue, have Z amount in your pipeline in the next 60 days or your employment status will be at risk of termination"
