i think there are two approaches.

1. be upfront about it, explain what happened, and what lessons you learned from the experience and how it will make you better.

2. Dont bring it up, focus on the fact that you wanted to leave and mention the reasons you wanted to leave and what you are looking for in your next role.

interviewing is all about storytelling. you have to determine what story you want to tell before the interview. think it through, practice how you want to talk about it. If you do this, you will be just fine.

I agree with this.

Also, how long were you at this role? If it's a short time, it can even fall off your LI profile after a little bit. A small gap in employment shouldn't raise red flags because you can explain it by "looking for the right role".

Ya! 2-3 months can be easily justified. For 6-12 months - recruiter 🤔🤔🤔

Yeah, that will require some thought. Taking time for one's self can be explained, but would have to be close to the truth and not embellished, IMO.

I think @TennisandSaleshas the best approach.

If you were there a longer time, definitely emphasize the earlier successes you (hopefully) had

You definitely need to be able to tell the story though.

Don't bring it up. At the end of the day, the new employer doesn't care about the semantics. Come up with a good story as to why you're making a move. Maybe you took a break for mental health etc.

With the current tech climate and layoffs you likely don’t even need to bring it up…

It depends upon how long have you been working, how had been your past performance, why you are put in PIP, how long, what’s the reason - is it company wide, just you etc etc.

I would try to steer clear of PIP talks unless they bring it up

It might be too late, but my advice is this: if you're nearing the end of a PIP and at risk of being let go, leave on your terms. Don't drag it out to the very end and make them fire you.

I failed a pip at a job I was only at for 6 months…3 months if you look at just post on boarding. Not a good look but like others have said it’s all about the story you tell. And that part of it? Just don’t tell it.

The company wasn’t the right fit for what you were looking for, went ins different direction than you expected, realized you wanted to pursue other opportunities, etc etc.

There’s so many things you can say to avoid the pip talk altogether!

My bad sales savages on delayed response.

Appreciate everyone’s input. I was there for a year was promoted from SDR to AE 3 months in.

We changed some organizational things like pricing and also some team changes.

Most AE’s were not hitting quota.

I am just going to not bring it up and say it was a mutual departure.

Interviewer doesn't know you were let go for failing to meet the requirements of a PIP, so nothing to handle

Many people just lie and blame it on something else. Companies aren’t calling others and asking about your past experiences
