Please keep your politics off of LinkedIn!

To any "sales leader" and loudmouth too ugly to get a real following on Instagram "LinkedIn Influencer".

I get that some big news came out today but my god I am so tired of scrolling through my LinkedIn feed to see the amount of politics that have flooded it up. Now the big news doesn't sit well for me either but it is my honest opinion that people, especially Salespeople and LinkedIn Influencers, need to shut the fuck up and keep their politics off of LinkedIn. I have unfollowed and even refused to be near a good chunk of these people who in the past years have used LinkedIn as their personal Facebook page.

It's not even the politics that gets me, it is the fact that most of these crap excuses for human beings are so fucking insincere about it all.

Yes, please tell us more about how you care so much for minorities while living in your 95% white neighborhoods.

Yes, please tell us more about how you would love to defund the police while you live in your safely gated or well-off communities.

Please tell us, Mr. LinkedIn Influencer and Mr. LinkedIn Sales Leader, how you are so empathetic and care about the good of humanity while most of you will readily fire your employees when it hits the fans and will do just about anything for some LinkedIn clout (including misleading people). Maybe you are using news from the Supreme Court as a way to take attention off of the fact that most of you leaders in the business world have done a poor job of genuinely caring for your employees but yeah syre, you pretending to give a crap about abortion will make us all forget how you rescinded job offers and fired your staff out of the blue.

Stop using LinkedIn as your political platform, not because I disagree with your politics or don't feel as strongly about the same things angering certain people themselves, but because we know that deep down inside you don't give two flying fucks and are just using LinkedIn to safe face. Scumbag.

Friend, I understand where you are coming from.

This news is too big to keep quiet about. Personally I'm grieving, and I'm interested to see what companies are saying and if their actions back it up.

Thinking of you @CuriousFoxย not an easy day or week.ย

Well said. ย You canโ€™t be on the sidelines here. Look at what some companies do as lip service, versus a Patagonia which will bail employees out if arrested at non violent protests. You can also easily see which politicians they give money to, and which they donโ€™t and itโ€™s pretty clear that they have taken their stance and let the chips fall where they may.ย

Agreed. A lot of companies pay lip service about these kind of things... women's health, pride month, mental health, DE&I, maternity leave, etc... and I think it's important to know who is actually following throughย

I feel like Iโ€™m the only female who is pro choice but also doesnโ€™t want my employer to be hard on any side of anything loud/ publicly. I work in the Bible Belt so maybe thatโ€™s why- but I feel like strong political statements from a company I work for just hurts my ability to pay my mortgage.

LI is the virtue-signalling network. You hardly ever see shitposts which is what makes them so special there.

Personally, I hate the posts about someone getting back to work after a family tragedy, that shit is so weird. It gets crazy engagement, but damn, not for me.

Completely agree. There doesnโ€™t seem to be any limits to what people will do on LI to get attention. Today I saw someone post that his wife recently died giving birth. He even posted a picture of her. I found it disgusting and Iโ€™m fairly sure his wife is rolling over in her grave furious that her husband would use her death for likes and comments.

I saw a man post a selfie with his son who was getting cancer treatment, and the caption was so inauthentic and disgusting that it literally made my stomach turn. I am fine with some personal sharing (I think it helps to humanize us), but have some limits...ย

I agree this post 100% with the lone exception of SCOTUS overturning RvW. This is a moment that transcends politics and signals that the country is pretty much fucked and doomed to be divided forever.ย

I think with respect to big news that comes out, companies and C suite should 100% post their opinions, along with what their company is going to do. Its a good chance for companies to back their values a bit. Iโ€™ve seen a lot of quotes on assistance if employees need that, and letโ€™s be honest in my opinion itโ€™s whatโ€™s right but itโ€™s a bit of a recruiting tool.ย

I donโ€™t follow any influencers on the platform and god willing, never will.ย

I also think that any effort by a company is purely for their own benefit, and made to maximize how they look rather than the good they actually do, a prime example is to check how much the NFL makes off of their cancer awareness push and their salute the troops stuff.ย

All posting that garbage does is make me want to engage less.

This went a different place than I expected. I came here to yell loudly, but I actually agree with you for the most part. You're right that some people feel so obligated to post something and that ultimately, they're just "doing PR" but for their personal brand. On the other hand, it's so hard to say nothing. This is a hard time for people in the U.S.

Totally expected a different post with the headline.

Several years ago, I was appalled that people on LI, primarily small business owners, decided that spouting their own particular brand of MAGA was a great idea on LI, as though FB wasn't enough.ย Based on the samples I saw, it seemed pretty clear most of them thought they were at the beginning of a majority movement, and probably were shocked at backlash.ย ย For my part, I was shocked in turn that these folks thought a business networking platform was a great place to stand on a soapbox and spread their generally noxious views.ย ย I did a lot of weeding out of contacts and follows (so I wouldn't see which of my charming contacts was engaging with these folks), and have sharply limited my LI scrolling ever since.

I was afraid of what LI was going to look like last week, and avoided it.ย ย Frankly, I'm relieved that we're debating potentially meaningless if well-intended gestures, rather than bombastic victory laps.

LI has become very political. It has stayed far from the path of the networking platform it was meant to be and has now become a source for people to grow their echo chamber even more.ย

the thing I hate the most is that its not even about the "event".......its about you reacting to it.ย

Like if something happens I HAVE to respond to everyone knows my stance.ย

Its also OK to react in your own life and not share it publicly. like you are not a bad person if you keep your thoughts to yourself.ย

idk the whole "why are you staying silent on this issue" thing has gotten a little crazy

Meh, I don't pay attention to the political posts, not even the "I Stand With Ukraine BS", I understand but come on. You don't have to virtue your righteousness all the fucking time. I have more of a pet peeve on the posts that start off just like

I just talked to this small shop owner who told me his coming up story by selling his "put a nostalgic product here" on the street corner for years...

UGGGGHHHHH, I wanna barf every time.

As a woman who this directly affects, I disagree (to an extent).

In sales, we are already in an incredibly male dominated field.

Regardless of your personal stance on abortion, the idea that states are making it near impossible to access safe abortions and trying to push law that will punish women who seek it from states that to allow itโ€ฆitโ€™s a dystopian nightmare.

Hearing that other folk in our industry also believe forcing women to keep unwanted pregnancy is not only wrong but HORRIBLE gives us assurance that we are in a field where women are valued as equal members of society and thus respected as professionals.

If we arenโ€™t entrusted with autonomy over our own bodyโ€ฆthen why would we trust we are valued as equals.

As a sales person, I wonโ€™t post about it. The only thing more obnoxious than the virtue signaling of LinkedIn is the anti-virtue signaling of Bravado. We get it โ€” you hate your job, so you scroll all day on LinkedIn. Youโ€™re jealous that dumb people have a bigger following than you. You hate people who donโ€™t do shit but talk a big game, while meanwhile you sit on your ass and do neither. Youโ€™re the Joker, theyโ€™re Batman โ€” you only exist to complain another each other and bring the collective intelligence of the planet down. Please for the love of God shut the fuck up.
