Posts a political poll and asks for people not to post political beliefs…too bad you can’t delete my comments.

Trump is a cult leader. Harris is a cold call.

One is spending all of their time making you believe they have your back, but really they’re just appealing to your fears and making you feel seen. Trump doesn’t give two shits about average Americans, but fuck does he know how to sell the middle to lower class non-costal folks based on FUD and falsehoods.

The other wants you to buy so badly, but they don’t have a relationship with you and you can’t trust them without more time. They are a potentially good solution, but more than likely will not deliver ROI and won’t renew after the initial contract term. Heck, she couldn’t pull together customer reference calls fast enough. Not bad, but not great.

Either choice is a bad one. Yet, here we are. Looking forward to 2028.

One candidate tried to subvert the democratic processes to hold on to power illegally.

One candidate brags about stripping women of the right to control their own healthcare.

One candidate thinks climate change is a hoax.

One candidate spreads vile racist lies that put families and children in danger.

Choice is simple.

points 2-4 there is no argument that can be made. I was watching Kevin O'leary on CNBC I believe (might be the wrong network) and he brought up a fair point, the democratic party subverted a democratic process in nominating Harris.

The entirety of the US democratic process isn't really all that democratic.

The 2 party system in and of itself is a big issue, but nominations? THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE?!

The fact that every election is decided by such small pockets of people in weird locations doesn't make sense.

Plus, with the EC, Americans aren't actually voting for anyone...

I used to be very anti EC, but then I met more and more people and decided I don't think everyone's opinion is actually that important so I get why they did it.

The EC reflects the votes of the states they represent, yes they ultimately decide who becomes president but it get's decided based upon how the states vote. The EC was also done because the U.S. has a long history of 2 parties and it was so that a majority didn't dominate the votes. It is a very interesting history read

Intriguing... Thanks for the info.

I still don't think it's a reasonable or helpful way to address the concerns. Also, shouldn't the majority decide the vote? Isn't that how a democracy works?

More people vote against someone than for, yet he wins... 🤔

IMO, everything should be a ranked ballot, and there shouldn't be 2 parties.

Well, in theory yes. But, take NYC, California as example. They have the highest density or population and many in those cities have very different view points than people that may live in a rural area and more spread out. Farming, manufacturing, whatever the case may be. The 2 cases have very different opinions on how they should be governed. How do you solve it?

In Canada, we have provincial and federal ridings. Each riding has a candidate from each party running. Urban ridings have significantly more people than rural ridings.

We don’t vote for our prime minister. We vote for the local representative, who then has a seat. Whatever party has the most seats is PM.

If it’s a minority government, they just got more than each of the other parties, and have less power. If they win a majority of seats overall, they have more power. (Akin to holding house and senate vs just one).

It’s far from perfect, but makes a lot more sense to me than the EC.

We also have standardized ballots/voting and no nonsense about states (provinces) deciding their own election laws. It’s almost always called that night, beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but the elector technically doesn’t have to vote any particular way. They can do what they want. Although I don’t think they ever do.
Justatitle

The elector could go against what their states voted for but it has never and will never happen. This isn't meant as an insult to Canada but I don't think you can compare a government for 41 million people to one for over 500 million.

But what’s stopping it from happening?

Who could ever imagine all the shit that Trump has wrought. A president seeking reelection would never reject election results and call for the storming of the Capitol, inciting insurrection, right?

And what does scale have to do with it? 41M vs 500M doesn’t matter. Nothing I identified would be any harder if there was actual central governance. States do their own thing and are often purposefully obstructionist. It’s the setup, not the size, that’s the issue.

The US system is broken at its foundation. The reality is that your elections are decided by a handful of people in places that don’t really matter all that much.

Campaigns are what, close to a year? Hundreds of millions of dollars spent, if not billions, to influence a couple of swing states.

Why?!? How can the incumbent actually govern while also trying to get reelected? We have a cap on that.

Plus the Super PACs. You guys aren’t even trying to hide the corporate influence 🤣

@Justatitle "...but it get's decided based upon how the states vote."

That's not how the EC works. Electorates, who are selected from each state, can decide to go against their popular vote. This was a conspiracy theory in 2020 that electorates were covering up the votes in certain states and were going to pass Democratic popular votes onto a Republican EC vote.

"This will never happen" is a good way to invite something into existence.

Dog, the Electoral college has never gone against the popular vote of it's state. It won't happen. The Electorates could decide but it has never and will never happen. It's also why checks and balances exist.

Don't ask about Senators and Representatives and why states like WY and SD have outsized influence.
It's a case where the correction to having a small state be overrun by a CA, FL or TX means that the small state gets to run over larger states. One way to fix that would be to remove the cap on the number of Representatives so that each state is honestly actually represented. And DC itself isn't represented at all, despite having a bigger population than some of those same states. It's wacky.

As someone who moved in 2019, I know that Biden last 5 years have been a mess for the legal immigrants.
Till few months ago, the waiting time to get a visa interview was 10-12 months for Indians. USCIS is overwhelmed and very limited capacity of them are working for legal immigrants, the focus on the illegals has created a lot of pain for folks like me who came here to work legally.
I can't vote, but if I would, I would vote for trump.

I am not sure what mess you're referring to? It's simple maths. You've X employees to manage Y number of immigrants coming in (legal or illegal), if you increase the throughput of illegals, queue of legals would go longer!
Right now the average wait time is 400 days to get a Visa appointment in India if you want to come to US legally. 400 fricking days!
If you want to walk illegaly, come right in. No wait time!

If you’d been here longer you’d see that Trump created that mess. He hoodwinked the once great Republican Party and they themselves lacked the courage to stand up to his lies, crimes and incompetence. I’m betting your a higher caste Indian. Most that I’ve met over my several years in technology generally side with Republicans without the real facts about how the US economy has performed under Democratic leadership.
