The cycle started in 2012. POC was flawless, turned out to be a perfect use case, and everyone on the exec/legal signed off. CTO, the buyer, got fired a few weeks later and the deal was dead in the water. Had to wait 8 months for the new CTO to come in. The new CTO wanted to do another POC + bake-off with us and two other competitors (should have charged for the second POC...but oh well). They went with one of the competitors due to a previous relationship. 10 months later they showed back up at one of our hackathon events and begged to take another look and admitted the vendor they chose shit the bed on the implementation and they had to fall on their sword. Closed them $50k over the original quote and signed for an extra year on the contract.

I honestly forgot all about it until now--I wonder if they kept using the product after two acquisitions.

This company sounds super well run. 8 months without a CTO, smooth. And then the new guy screwing things up...

Well done by you!

Hey man, good CTOs are hard to find. Interm talent can't make decisions.

If you know you're gonna fire somebody, it's time to start looking for the replacement. 8 months!!!

Who's to say they "knew" they were going to fire them. Anyways, not my fire to tend.

6.5 months for me is the longest, average sales cycle is 30-60 days.

The crazy part is that this deal was a 220 day sales cycle, deal size was $4500 ARR,

However, i had a 46 day sales cycle deal which was $47K ARR.

gotta love sales man.

17 months. Deal went completely dark twice, I had two different managers and was relocated during that time.

Sent a Linkedin message to an Economic Buyer in 2015. He said that they weren't ready to talk at that point since he'd just started and need to get their shit together.

3 years later out of the blue he messages me and wants to talk. $20k deal (SMB sales mostly at this company ~$3k), so didn't really have to do a lot of lifting here but ROI definitely wouldn't have been impactful if I had been continually chasing.

Enquiry received on January 5th 2017, I hope to seal the deal this week, making it 4 years and 5 months.
The customer is indecisive, there has also been a lot of red tape to sort out (permitting for his work, tendering for work that will guarantee him some return on the investment). Two years ago I forked out for an international trip for the prospect and myself so that he could see my solution in the flesh (it's a physical product).
Up until this week he STILL wasn't decided on the exact model he wanted, but yesterday he appears to have taken a decision and now I am waiting on him to make a deposit.

In a typical sales cycle I close...
37% Once, at the end. 🥇
56% On every call from 1st cold call to final closing call. 🤓
7% Never. I am not a closer, and therefore, I have never drank coffee.
