Positivity Post - What has your boss done for you to help you become more successful, or what do you wish your boss would do for you to help you become more successful?

Title pretty much sums it up. I would like to hear from as many of you savages as possible. Doesn't need to be current boss, but in a sales position of some sort. Let's give kudos to the awesome boss's past or present.. I'll post a negative discussion next week on what bosses do that's a waste of time (hour long meetings that could be a 5 min email)

I had a boss named KJ who told me even though I was crushing quota, "I looked like I didn't give a fuck." It was really helpful because it was true, it was offensive to those working hard and struggling to see me wearing shorts, t-shirt and hat with skittles on my stomach and hot dog wrappers at my desk. My career got a lot better when I looked like I gave a fuck because my appearance matched my results and I went north quickly after that.

Taught me to look at the entire business holistically rather than just focussing on just one part of the business. This way I was able to implement and optimize a lot of other things in the cross-functional team as well.

Nice, im curious about the roles reverse. I wonder what people do to hell their boss become mroe succesful as well. I think your response would be beneficial at least in a company like mine where the fresh sales people thrive one cross sales and upselling.

I'm not super detailed but my immediate manager is - a real t-crosser i-dotter type.ย  But I'm more intuitive and a much better people person.ย  Its a good combo.

I really struggle with being detail oriented (when I'm asked in an interview what i suck at this is what i tell them). Any suggestions on how to not suck at this?

One of the best things that my boss does is celebrate all of our wins, big & small! We have some pretty small deals that come in, I'm talking less than $100, but she still makes sure we feel appreciated & like we're doing a good job when those roll in.ย

He taught me a lot of things that weren't directly about my job function.ย 

I wasn't in sales, I was in "sales support", but for his own sales related projects (he was double hatting) he would sometimes include me in the calls, or we would talk about the strategies. I would ask stupid questions, because I didn't quite grasp so many concepts, but I learned a lot.ย 

Now, I changed companies and I'm not in "sales" (even tho I literally closed a deal after I came here) but whenever I hear about a new job, I immediately remember all the things I've learned while working on a contract, or dealing with customers, or financial aspects.ย 

Also, he gave me go ahead on so many projects that maybe any other boss would deny me because how young/inexperienced I was at the time.ย  Not to mention having my back, even when I did mistakes. Never threw me under the bus, even though I was very willing to jump in front of one lol.ย

There's a huge lack of mentorship capability because i've been at the company longer and have more sales and product knowledge, so there's legit no possible method for mentorship in this role that I used to benefit from in a huge way.

But I'm never gonna be comfortable reaching out to a more seasoned manager and asking for mentorship I can't get from my boss, so I'm kinda just figuring shit out as i go and taking bits and pieces from failing forward. It's working out but it's definitely a bummer.

Would love for my boss to see that and maybe direct me to other managers that can really mentor me at my current level, you know?

as an AE I was always top 25% and here and there would be top 5% in a 2000 person org which isnt too bad. As a manager I have always been top 10% and been top 3 with some regularity

I've been #1 in the whole company at a previous position, as well as #1 on my team and #2 for percentage to (above) quota in an earlier organization.
