Power Outage

The power is out at my place and I have been wondering what am I going to do when tomorrow comes and the power is still out. We are still working from home so no one is at the office.

When your power goes out what do you do if you can't go into the office?

I could go to a cafe or a shared workplace, but I will be making lots of cold calls tomorrow. So those will probably be a no go. And since I use Outreach for all my calls, will I just have to buy a power converter, go to my car and spend the day making calls from there with my phone as a hot spot?

I've never been in this situation before, and the power has been out for almost 4 hours now and they have not sent a crew out to investigate yet. That's why I am wondering what I will be doing tomorrow if the power is still not on.

What do you do?

Hotspot your phone with an inverter in your car to power the laptop.

That's what I think I will be doing in the future. I'm going to go buy a power converter today to get ready for the next windstorm.

Idk how much you like to travel, but I pulled the trigger on a big one so I could power all kinds of things. You never know when you'll want to blend up a daiquiri ;).

Ha ha ha. I used to travel all the time for my previous profession. But not so much anymore.

I'm thinking I will need a bigger one though. Just so I'm over protected. Lol

Go big or go home.

Would call my boss and tell him the power is out and I won't be working today. If he didn't understand why it was impossible to work I'd know I was working for a moron and would be finding a new job.

The bosses would understand 100%. It's me who would be wanting to get working. Need to make those dials. lol Luckily it came back on, but it could have been a lot worse. Since there were outages all over the province. Usually they send out a crew right away but it took just over 4 hours to send a crew. They were swamped.

I mean, you can just tell them your power is out. Assuming you're in a place where covid restrictions are in place, then they should understand. Its a force majuer completely out of your control.

I agree here, I would assume there is a level of understanding with leadership in situations beyond our control.

There is, and quite honestly if they do not have that understanding, they’re unfit to lead in my opinion

They would be 100% understanding. But I wouldn't want to do that. Need to make the dials and send emails. It came on again, so that was lucky. The last big storm we had, it was out for a lot longer.

Thanks everyone. Power came back on and I'm all good now. I will be going out to buy a power convertor incase this situation happens again. Which I'm positive it will. I was kind of stressing last night because I had a meeting first thing this morning. And I couldn't go get a power converter last night, cause the stores close early on Sundays. lol
