Professional? Or Immature?

I've found myself resisting the urge to use emojis in communication with customers and prospects via email. Not in the sense that I wanna overkill with emoji use but tactically via email or text to be expressive and convey a little emotion in this more remote first world...

Thoughts? Opinions?

Avoid it at all costs?

What do you think would be the appropriate level of rapport you should have?

Happy Friday!!

Really just depends on each person. If you're communicating with tik tokkers I'm sure they wouldn't give a shit

Thank God there aren't too many TikTok-ers in the CSuite who have raised any money past seed LOL... Those little shits couldn't afford me anyway

Just wait. One of them will be the next Kylie Cosmetics and then we will hear about that shot forever too.

@paddy I agree 100%. Must be adaptable to any personality. I insert appropriate humor when overcoming objections at times. But definitely depends on how one reads their audience.

Really depends on your market.

When I was selling to designers they were basically all weed bros, so they were happy to have some emoji love.

Global financial institutions maybe not though. 🤷‍♂️

It's up to you. You'll know by the vibe you have with the prospect.

Read the room. My rule has always been to mirror what they put in their emails, Andy Bernard style. They use emojis? Use emojis (whether or not you usually do). They use exclamation points? Use those too. You get the idea.

One of my colleagues uses bitmojis in her emails and it seems to really work for her. Fits her personality well which is why it works. Its not really my style so I don't do it.

Side note: our SDRs have seen decent success using emojis in email subject lines

That's super interesting from a cold outbound perspective!

It definitely depends on the relationship that you have with your contact, but even then I would limit it to a smiley face at most.

Corporate overlords will allow 1 (ONE) smiley face at the end of a direct message to soften the blow. All other emojis are strictly forbidden in the People's Republic of Salestopia.

OOOOO even the strong arm muscle emoji!? It would've been very appropriate in conversation earlier but I resisted.

I think it depends on your relationship with that person. If the customer/prospect you're working with you feel like you have a good relationship with them, by all means send a couple emojis. If not lay off.

I use them, but typically with a returning client who I have an established relationship with.

100% who you are talking too and the relationship at hand. Most of my customers I will not, but a few I will. Highly advise not doing it to anyone old. ha.

Depends on the market and the relationship with the prospect. The more developed the relationship the more likely it's acceptable.

It depends, I'd check it at the door to start especially at first engagement. Then when I get a good read on the prospect and they look like they'll take it, I throw some in - to the presso etc. It's a god rapport builder.

I think an emoji is appropriate to use after you already have made good rapport with someone and they have warmed up. You know, a smiley face emoji after them agreeing to see a demo is pretty appropriate

I don't use them with my customers unless they use them regularly.

I use the odd smiley face to prospects I have a good rapport with. Otherwise, no.
