โ€œI have too many to fit on a slide so Iโ€™m not going to send you a list, but Iโ€™m happy to line up a reference call for youโ€

That is weird as hell and I would treat it as a huge red flag.

No. Tell them you can't for privacy reasons or whatever then do as Meech said above and offer to set a reference meeting.

This is about what I say "... Surely you can appreciate that we respect our customer's privacy. In fact, we have NDAs in place with all of our customers for this very reason. ... I can or have provided several references for you to call to attest to our companies product and our people. If you would like more references I am happy to provide those to you."

"Why do you need our full list? There's a lot of companies on there, so if you're looking for a referral I'd be happy to curate the right one. Who would be ideal for you to speak to?"

This is insanity and they are just making you jump through hoops to sell them, and probably arent bought in.ย

Send over some logos and offer to set up a call if they really care that much.ย

That's ridiculous. Unless you work at a early stage start up and even then that's a massive ask. In that scenario I may do it for a huge deal, but that's about it.

Some prospects are not worth bending over backwards for. They will take up a disproportionate amount of your time after the sale if you have any account management responsibilties, they'll miss payments or try to cancel on you, etc.ย

If you'd be great to work with or it's a big deal? Sure I'll put in some work for you. If it's a dime a dozen deal or they'll be a horrible customer, get fucked. First one to put their foot down wins.

I'd tell them you're happy to send over some success stories or set up a referral conversation with ONE customer, if they are truly very interested and this would help move the needle.ย

Tell them to get wrecked. This is just weird and sends off all kinds of red flags. As a prospect?! Not even a chance Iโ€™d entertain this. Say no. And then you can either get curious and try to get to the bottom of why they need this, or tell them to get wrecked.

Publicly traded company and that info requires legal docs and agreements before I can release that type of info. Why do you request that sort of info (if it isnโ€™t onvious) and say you can possibly answer their questions rather than releasing that info anyway.

First of all, I only share references of those who have given the green light to have their info shared- no way in hell I'm potentially violating NDAs by sharing a customer list. Second of all, ask them what exactly they're hoping to achieve with that- if it's they don't believe your company has as many clients as you say you do, that's different than hoping to pick a few to call as references.ย

I've seen it done a couple ways.
1) Give them a couple names of customers, after having already checked if they are cool with having a convo.
2) Ask the prospect for questions they would have and run them by the customer.ย
TBH...it's weird AF that they'd be asking for a full list unless they are trying to see if you work with companies in their segment.

Theyโ€™ve already been introduced to references, just came at me with this request.

What's the purpose of it? For reference 1-2 customers in the same space should make more sense for them.ย

Do you think putting out the price in the first meeting where a demo is shown , is recommended? Would it add value or loosen the deal or interest?
