Pseudo-Anonymity: What do you like/not like?

I saw Sahil got some HEAT on LI for posting one of the conversations that happened in the War Room.

What are the things that you like and do not like about pseudo-anonymity overall and particularly here in the War Room?

Big fan. I have co-workers on here, compete with a few people on here, but because of the anonymity I can be open and engage on posts/topics I otherwise would not be able to (interviewing, sales skills, competes, etc). I think the level of collaboration on here is awesome, and would not happen otherwise.

I think most of the reaction proved his point. The post he shared was pretty well received on here, but in LI world people seemed outraged. They don't live in reality or what to create a false persona for their "professional" network. Public perception/outrage clearly alters peoples real thoughts and opinions.

That’s because these are two entirely different platforms. People can post whatever they want here, that’s the whole point. It doesn’t make sense to share anonymous posts from here on LinkedIn as it has an entirely different audience and purpose

I love it personally. I hate the cesspool that anonymous forums/social media can create. We also can be more honest on here than on a LinkedIn or Facebook since it is pseudo-anonymous. I like this happy medium and hope that more companies pick this up.

I'm famous.... but to answer your Q, I'm a big fan of Pseudo-Anonymity. Not in the sense of people being able to say whatever they want, good or bad and without consequences, indifferent there, but because language tends to be free-er. I like Reddit for the same reason but you can find really bad channels and really good channels but you won't see that level of conversation going on elsewhere.

I tried to look for the post the share a SS but I can't find it so maybe he deleted it.

He shared a conversation about someone in the War Room saying that they used a female alias to prospect and the increased success they had with it.

People attacked him saying that it was unethical and that he shouldn't share it bla, bla bla...

Even though he mentioned that he didnt support the tactic, that just wanted to share what happens when people are allowed to have converations without having to worry about being canceled.

First off, what happens in the war room should stay in the war room.

Second, using pseudonyms allows us to be honest and open without fear of retaliation by organizations or others who can identify you professionally.

Keep it this way.

To be fair, that heat mainly came from just a few people with the loudest voices. If anything, the responses were the perfect argument for why the style here is so important. Also, props to Sahil for keeping his cool when being attacked.

I think broadly it's really beneficial to having honest conversations on the platform, but like all things it's not perfect. T

There are people who will use tactics (and post in WR about them) that I find morally wrong or questionable - like men posing as women to sell, just my 2 cents - but the majority of the time the pseudo-anonymity of WR lets us share our legitimate experiences and opinions.

You can't stand on your professional reputation on here. That leads some people to feel comfortable sharing things they do that I don't agree with, but it also leads a lot more people to share valuable, authentic things that I am already using to improve my career and skillset.

TLDR: Two sides to every coin. I'd rather we all be honest and sometimes it brings out something ugly than all be performing constantly.

I think it really works well here because of the tedious process that corp goes through in vetting every person. You look at the anonymity provided to people on social media (insta, reddit, etc.) and it really detracts from the community.

Here, we are all looking to either learn, or teach so it works out very well.

I LOVE the anonymity on the WR, given my role I am constantly finding myself having to temper my thoughts and feelings on LI because its public facing in nature. I enjoy the freedom of being able to speak passionately in a community without the BS politics that come with LI. Oh and most "influencers" in sales on LI are garbage.

Long time Reddit user. Something I enjoy about there is the use of "alt" accounts to further tighten up pseudo-anonymity. This allows the demographic that want to create and build a following in the pseudo anonymous environment to also use the platform and interact with certain topics/communities safely.

I've had some issues with our company asking us to push content on LI on behalf of the company.

It gets zero feedback every. single. time. No matter the hashtags, the fluff, etc.

And I've been doing it for months.

It's MY profile. Not yours. LinkedIn feels like a self glorification feed about how great x company or x individual are and blah blah blah.

I feel like the mainstream internet needs more of it. Saw the post & immediately knew he would catch 'constructive criticism'.

Likes:
- More honesty with less the fluff
- Less social risk when being blunt aka avoiding cancel culture
- Freedom of influencers who are trying to make a personal name for their 'brand'

Dislikes:
- Can't gauge how legit someone is by seeing their background or researching them

I think it's great that people can ask advice on specific questions without everyone finding out specific people involved, like dealing with managers, dealing with reps, helping with deals, without the fear of facing backlash.
