PTO or $$&

Everyone is motivated by something different and the key to a good leader is finding what motivates your people. I’m noticing as more, younger, fresh out of college sales reps come in - they aren’t motivated by the money. They are more motivated by the PTO. We have changed our approach with internal contests to hear more towards that.

ME? Give me the $$. Every day I’m off is a day I’m losing business.

What about you? What motivates you more?

What incentives you more?

Money, but man recharge those batteries when you can - makes everything worth it.

Recharging is easier with long weekends and half day breaks to hit some golf balls or see a game.  If you wait until you are drained, like a battery, it will take a way longer time to recharge and it will probably not feel as good to take a vacation if you are drained.

I wouldn’t join a company for the time off, but it’s important.

I get that there is a cultural difference between the US and UK on this front, but I can’t stress taking your holidays enough.

work and money is cool but memories are priceless

It really is crazy how so many other countries take time off and value their time off so different. When I was living in Paris we had the whole month of August pretty much off!  In the states I feel like they run you to the ground and then easily replace you.

It’s one of the things that put me off moving to the US, which I would love to do, btw.

things like annual leave or maternity for my mrs or paying for hospital etc.

100%. I got 12 weeks paid maternity and I’m blessed for that, here in the states, some get none but I was NOT emotionally or physically ready to return. Way too soon.

You see! that is crazy. 12 weeks just isn't enough for that kind of situation.

Sorry you went through that and I am not in the least bit surprised that you weren't ready!

Money for sure, but I'm trying to line it up so my commission covers for me so I can take paternity leave next spring. I think I'm good.

Thanks! I travelled much too much with our 1st, so with this one I'll be spending some much-needed time at home bonding with both.

This has to be the worst post ever in the history of the war room.

Which real salesperson is more incentivized by time off, than the guala?

How is PTO a motivation?

I tend to agree but I swear they eat it up! Like for instance, if they hit their daily sales goal and KPI, they can log off early for the day.  Or if they start their month by week 2, they can have the Friday off.  They don’t have to use their own PTO for it, it’s like a gifted free day.

In the past instead of Friday off it would be a gift card, lunch, cash or some merchandise.

Interesting --- I guess it's less appealing to me since I work from home and have a family. I can log off whenever I want. However, if I was single, in a city, in a "sales pit" atmosphere I could see the upside in being able to unplug early.

When I was younger <cough> my boss wouldn't give a shit where I was if I was hitting my numbers.  Plus, fresh out of college reps are probably just playing xbox and smoking weed these days.

I think I would last two seconds IRL. I would no way be able to teach a group of 3rd graders without dropping an occasional fbomb or wanting to just walk out. That age is ROUGH 😂😂😂. They think they know everything.
