Quota increase No comp adjustment

Q1- 181%
Q2- 191%
I've put up some really great numbers this year. I've worked extra hours and weekends and even came in on holidays to do so as I'm planning for a wedding. I was just informed that our quota is being raised by double(give or take 10%) with no comp increase. I've been the top rep by a mile. I've only hit the projected quota 1x in two years and I'm the only one to have done so. ever. im obviously a little stressed not only for myself but for the other AEs s they've struggled to hit our current quota all year and I partially feel at fault here. How would you respond to a change like this? I'm a father to a 2yr old, trying to save for a wedding, otherwise I think I would've left.

Sadly this is common.
Also watch for new logos to get paid out on a higher percent than renewals. Money is money, right? Except in sales.

Are you not paid a percentage of what you close? Or is it based on percentage attainment?

How can you not be paid more for closing more?

I do get paid a percentage of what I close. To be on track to hit my agreed upon OTE, I need to hit $12k in monthly recurring revenue and then I get kickers for anything over attainment. Now to get that same commission I will need to hit around $24k, so they’re basically cutting the percentage I get for what I close in half. I guess I was just hoping to hear how other people would handle a situation like this.

Man, that sucks. Changes to commission structure are common but cutting the percentage in half is a low blow and very demotivating

Yeah definitely took the wind out of my sails. I think I’m just going to ask for a base raise and if not I’ll just be applying elsewhere for now.

You're killing it but no one else is? Seems odd.

Increases in quota with no increase in comp is par for the course - happens everywhere and to everyone. Hopefully as you sell more, you will get more commissions which will increase what you're making - which is the goal of Sales.

What’s odd about that? Did you read the post? Sales to hours worked we’re all relatively doing the same numbers. I’ve just worked a whole lot more as I explained in my post. If I had worked normal hours I would probably be right at goal or slightly above. I anticipated a quota increase, I guess just not double. To hit the new quota I’d get half as much commission as I am currently. In order to make more sales id have to find a way average 12-14 hours of work a day as opposed to the 10-12 I’ve been doing.

You post, I comment. You don't like the comment, fine, but then don't post.

Put on your big girl panties cause Sales Life is all about getting your quota and commissions jacked around on you. The moment they see you as a success, they're going to knock your sorry uppity ass back down. Just the way it is. They don't care about your wedding, your kid, your future divorce, nor your future diabetes (from putting too much time into your work and not yourself). That's what you've signed up for.

😂😂😂 sir yes sir.

Thank you Goggins. Your input was original and valuable. I now have my big girl panties on and I’m ready to get to work on myself right after work is done jerking me around for the day. I’m sorry that your wife cheated on you, and you’re angry and alone now. The sun will shine for you again someday, I’m sure of it.

Thank you,
Mr. Uppity Ass

Muchos take it easy. You got snarky with him and he came back with jokes. You’re free to find a new job anytime bro. We’ve all been through hell and back, twice. If you are worried about hitting the number, find a new gig. We’re all trying to pay for kids, mortgages, weddings, vacations. Your company does not care what you’re planning for.

His first line set the tone, so I also responded with the same level of jokes. The point is, I was hoping for advice from people that have been in similar situations. I’ve never had a quota double out of nowhere, I wondered if people try to negotiate something and if so how did they go about it? the obvious immediate solution is to quit. I know companies don’t care about people as individuals or what we have going on which is why this wasn’t directed to them.

Don’t quit without finding something else first. Since you’re the top dog, you’ll have a leash to take your time to find something. You’re going to be ok, you’re going to have a beautiful wedding, and you’re going to provide for your child and wife. Take your time. Don’t jump at the first thing.

This is common and may not entirely be because of you, companies usually check average attainment by everyone, company goals, market situation and other things before increasing quota.

This sucks but is common. Maybe it’s a change that can reverse if nobody performs great. Talk to management after a quarter. I’d say don’t do anything in haste. Wait it out at least for a Q.

Happens often. Company sees a rep doing well and knocks them down.
