Raises at your current company

When have you asked for a raise?

How long were you in that position?

How much over your current base did you ask for?

My situation:

I'm currently the first AM at a startup. Been here for 8 mo, been exceeding most company expectations, taken on additional responsibilities, solely trained the newest AM that just onboarded two months ago. Thinking about making an ask soon at least at the 11 month mark to implement at the 1 yr anniversary.

This is a great question that I too am looking for.
In my job interview with my current company, they offered to pay for my last two semesters of college, and when it's completed to give me the rate I was asking for originally.

Long story short, I finished, paid out of pocket, they refused to pay me back and didn't give me the raise we verbally agreed on.

Lesson: Get everything in writing. Then started my startup.

If you are going to ask (which I don't have a huge issue with) come prepared with data as to why you deserve a raise. Hard data that shows you deserve one more than your peers.

Also not a bad shout to wait until at least a year...

Last company I was hired as the first CS employee--we quickly pivoted away from a CS function so I took over SalesOps and Enablement. That's an IC to an IC role, although I had a Director title with the pivot, so I didn't ask for a raise.

The next promotion was taking over a department and building a new team...along with doing my old job until I could hire someone to do it. I did the research on what my peers would be paid locally, nationally, and industry-wise. I did my research across 5 different data sources, presented it to my boss (CMO) and HR team, and ultimately got denied due to bad internal pay practices.

Raises should come at annual review time or at promotion time. I got neither, but that's because the company treated current employees like shit.

If I am performing well, I ask for a raise or some sort of stock grant every 2 quarters.

And how often are you granted a bi-annual raise or grant?

I get stock grants fairly often, the raises are rare.

Makes sense. Performance-based incentives are easier to give out than cash. They (mgmt) see the stock as a win-win. You get something and they get something if the market does well and the value goes up.

Honestly I would wait for the 12 month mark and at that point come prepared to why you feel you deserve one. BUT in the meantime I might prod a bit when in 1:1 type meetings and talk about the process for raises and such.

Well I just asked for a raise in my company to match/beat current offers as well as the fact that qe are hiring a completely new team so I want to be in a leadership position.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
You should be getting compensation adjustments (upwards of course) annually.

How long does it typically take your company to implement a raise? My company takes about 3 months to negotiate and get a contract sent out to me.
