Rant - I ain’t got it in me no more

Got back from the holidays later cause I worked all throughout the holidays. I pick up the dialer to call prospects. I immediately ended the call cause I couldn't just imagine myself doing this BDR job for another few months. Cold calling is sucking the soul out of me.

Guys tell me what's working. I work in cybersecurity, selling to those core it guys can be a hassle. Give me your tricks and tips as a BDR!!!

I relate with this as an AE just in the sense that I’m only now starting to get back into my groove, coming back from the holidays. But, even then, I’d say I’m still only 80% - 90% there. When I let my foot off the gas in sales, even in appropriate situations like during vacation, its such a uphill battle to build that momentum back up.

For sure. As an avid golfer the parallel is perfect. If I playing and practicing everyday for 4-5 months, then take time off, there’s 0 chance I’m going to be in the same grove I was.

We all have those days. If it's more than a day and is ongoing, then this job is probably not the right fit for you.

Sales isn't for everyone, and that's okay. These days you have to cut your teeth as an SDR/BDR to get to AE. But I'll tell you a secret, tons of AEs cold call. And it has its own stresses and challenges.

It always takes me a few days to get back into things after an extended vacation. And cold calling does suck, but IMO there's very few better ways to prospect.
What is the end goal you are working for? Promotion? Gaining exp to move to a different company? More $$?

I want to grind it out to an AE position then move to account manager

I have days like those a lot after coming back from some time off. Usually find that grinding through it solves it sooner rather than later

Always, always look for a new role while you still have one. If you're over it, start applying now. Bc the market is harsh atm.

i'm in year 7 of sales and 6 of them in a closing role and I still can't stand the dialing. we laid off our BDRs at the end of '22 so I went back to even having dial metrics and I feel you. you really just have to suck it up and do it unfortunately

Is sales for you? Ask yourself this. If it’s yes, then you’re sounding burnt out.
Be fair to yourself and work in bite sized chunks. It’s a marathon and not a sprint.
