Recession and the scare : How much of it really is true?

Up recently, externally and internally - I have been hearing the "oooooh hard times now, whatchu doing to float?" kinda questions.

Is the recession really hitting us ? Are companies becoming conservative way too much or what's happening?

True. The stock market isn't the economy.

I got an offer from Hubspot and refused it. Because of recession scares. My current employer will do better during a recession so I’ll stay for a while. And leveraged the offer for a rqise

Different industries are getting affected differently. I can say for the industry that I am in we are busier than we have been the past 2 years and there is no slowing down in site.

The biggest issue that we could run into is the labor market and not enough people coming into the industry to keep the work flow going that could possibly become an issue with continued growth but it would continue to still be busy.

It'll hit different people differently. We'll all feel it at the pump or grocery store to an extent but ultimately some will flounder and some will flourish. If you have capital, recession means buyer's market.

Recession is definitely coming, but I don't think it's necessarily going to be the doom and gloom that many are prognosticating

It will for some and not for others. I think the reason it'll be less all-encompassing than previous recessions is due to COVID pushing a lot of companies to full remote. Operating costs are lower, less commuting means less spent on lunch and transportation.

I just meant the economy overall, inflation is a pretty solid bellwether.

I agree though - thank God for Remote

depends on the market you are in, depends on if you company overhired to try and skyrocket growth.

its hitting hard for a ton of companies. But much of this is out of our control. keep your head down and get shit done.

Even if you make the same amount as last year, it ain’t gonna go as far this year. I’ll put it that way.
Better start grinding.
We are officially in a recession, and recessions affect most people. It’s a real
Challenge but you have to get over it and focus on individual performance.

My company monitors major trends like this and what we are seeing is that if inflation continues to be high as we get to Q4, CFOs will be cutting budgets. Personally, my deals have been pushed or paused.

Feeling it in tech recruiting. Hiring slow downs, pauses, restructuring and flat our rescinding offers is happening daily.

This isn’t just a recession. This will be one of the worst economic periods in American history. You can’t rack up exorbitant amounts of debt, become increasingly less competitive, destroy each other from within, print endless amounts of money (which devalues our currency) for decades, and expect to always be on top. Very likely that america loses our privilege of having reserve currency status, and when we do, that will be the most catastrophic economic consequence of our life time. Buckle up.

Recession is definitely here and it is changing your daily life. The average cost to do everything you were doing a year ago is much higher now and your pay probably hasn't matched that increase. Layoffs happening a lot which means more unemployment. Until inflation gets handled it will remain tough out there.

This is a tough one.... For someone that lived through the crash of 2008 as an AE, as of now, the signals aren't nearly as catastrophic especially with the markets swinging upward again.

BUT, what makes this one really tricky is the fact that there are a number of factors at large here that can trigger a recession and perhaps even a worse one be at that since credit and liquidity is at an all time low right now. So if the United States does go through another 2008 event, then it would be unlikely a foreign player would take on some of our sovereign debt.

The industry that was most impacted in 2008 was the banking industry, which by orders of magnitude is far more significant than most industries including tech in both TAM and average market caps. For now, it seems like doomsday prepping is at an all time high right now and I don't agree with a lot of the moves companies are making, but who the hell am I to say.
