I think this totally depends on why it was closed lost and timing.ย

If we lost the business because the rep shit the bed it's going to be a completely different conversation than if the deal fell through due to internal issues on the client's end.

Hey I've seen you and (blank) had a brief conversation about (whatever the notes say) id love to follow up and reconnect if you had some time this month. Then if they say its still not the right time ask when, then just say you can be the point of contact from now on. Op died for a reason so address the situation and don't spend too much time on it.

If you are at a start up that has matured itโ€™s product, this is my go to. Hi (insert name), I noticed you had spoken to (old rep) in the past and had discussed x, y and z. You mentioned x was an important initiative. Our product has matured a lot in this area since we last spoke. Would you be open to reconnecting and seeing how this might better align to your goals and initiatives?

Response rate is high! Sometimes they respond with I went another direction which either allows you to try to dive in deeper or qualify out and focus your time in more productive areas.ย

It's perfect because that is the exact scenario I'm in, product has matured tenfold in just a couple years and we are giving the big dogs a run for their money. They laughed at us 4 years ago now they want to buy us out.ย

Be straight forward: Old contact is gone, saw this info from before, what happened and how can I help you?

I would review all the previous interactions as well as notes and based on that try to make a relevant approach with an added value.ย

Context is important, but pricing changes or product updates that related to the closed lost reason are typically the best way to reengage.

Totally depends on why itโ€™s a lost opp. But in my experience, the best way to resurrect a lost opp is simply calling it and finding out what kept them from moving forward the last time they looked.ย

Call, don't email.

Chat about the the problems for the original notes, build a little rapport and ask if anything has changed on their side, if nothing, talk about what value has increased on yours.

If it goes nowhere, move on and touch again in a couple quarters.ย
