Referral to DM after Intro Meeting - wait for intro or cold outreach?

Had a good meeting with a large client's partnership director today, with the ultimate goal of getting in front of IT. She seemed interested and wanted to bring it to her tech team, and come back to me with some of their initiatives that might line up with our solution set.

That being said, she gave me all of their names and I'm tempted to at least reach out on LinkedIn and say like "Spoke briefly with X today, she mentioned your name as a technical resource within COMPANY." Do you reach out to the DMs yourself, or wait for the referral to happen? They just seem to fall through a lot in my opinion.

I usually reach out directly to DM. If you're afraid to hurt your relationship with your initial contact your messaging should be light like the one you mentioned. Id add "looking forward to connecting" and definitely staying away from asking for the meeting directly with them.

That way, if your contact doesnt come through you can always send a follow up to the DM asking directly for the meeting

Thank you! I was thinking that might be the way to go since I've had so many connects fall through.

DM first as you may have an edge even if prospect goes cold!

Thanks for the advice! I'll probably reach out to the DM later this week like Friday if I haven't heard back

Give it a few days and then reach out. Your "spoke briefly with X" thing will still be true next Monday.

See this is what I was thinking in my head, haven't reached out yet. Thought that it might hurt my chances if she is actually on it

Yeah, exactly. I'd say there's low risk to give it a week. If you're tight with the AE, you could even have him/her do the reachout if that'll still get you credit. Gives you cover.
