Regretted leaving?

Was it worth leaving a place where you're the top rep and are under appreciated (and underpaid) to go to a higher OTE?

I’ve never regretted leaving a job before. I also have only done it a few times and each time it’s been clear that my time had come.

How'd you know it was time to leave?

I was bored going into work every day. I crave a new challenge and something different. When I find myself waking up and being miserable at the thought of having to go to work... that’s time to leave.

Great discussion topic- interested to hear input as I'm in that situation myself and about to sniff out greener pastures

Thanks! I'm in a tough spot, only place I've worked and everyone who comes in tells horror stories about what it's like on the outside.

I hear you. I've been at my place for 6+. I'm pretty much at my wits end and engaging a few other places. Most of my buddies have moved on. Some landed well, others not as well. It's definitely a grass isn't always greener situation. I've been doing really well but hundo p under paid and under valed watching outside hires come in and make more.

At this point I'm expecting it's not going to be all roses but I just want to expereince something new and be excited for work again- also for a higher paycheck haha.

100%! Routinely maxed out commissions to hit negative accelerators and had an ideal comp plan in place last March. CFO inked it and .... 20 days later a new VP came in, tore it up, and cut pay in half.

He's gone, but comp is the same. Should I fight for more stock and leverage other offers?

Tough call- I'd say it also depends on other factors outside of comp. Is that the biggest issue or are you beyond annoyed at tons of other shit as well but comp takes the cake.

I've known I was underpaid for awhile and frankly was okay with it because I had built a great reputation, manager wasn't micromanaging and I was pretty flexible to run my business as I wanted. After acquisition and growth and new, I'll say management not leadership- things have just progressively gotten worse. I'm now at a point where the advantages and freedoms Ive enjoyed are slowly being diminished and things are just getting silly. If they paid me what I'm worth than it'd be easier to ignore but on top of being taken advantage of from a comp perspective plus all this increased bullshit I've decided it's time to take some calls.
I was a bit nervous at first but I'm getting that excited feeling to learn something new and start fresh somewhere, doesn't hurt that the increase in pay will be substantial.

Long story short- If you should reflect on everything holistically. If you're just missing out on some potential comp any everything else is great then maybe it's worth sticking it out, trying to negotiate a raise there and not rolling the dice on starting fresh.
If you're burdened by a ton of shit and comp is off to cap it off then hell... no reason sticking it out!

Good luck!

every time i've left a company, it has always been well worth it. it's hard to properly sell if you feel undervalued and underpaid. that shows what your company thinks about its sales teams. higher OTE has always pushed me to work harder since i'm mainly coin operated.

Work hard and not get paid accordingly? Doesn't sound fun

Sure. But hindsight is always 2020, keep moving forward or keep those bridges in tact and go back

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I've certainly fucked up the landing spot and regretted that but I've never regretted the act of leaving.

I've gone to a couple places (both start-ups) that had toxic leadership and weren't designed for salespeople to be successful. I shouldn't have gone to those places (to be fair, I thought I was going somewhere good in both cases) but leaving the companies I left was also the right call.
