Relocate for Remote Job๐Ÿค”?

Hello Everyone!

With the help of war room's advice, I started reaching out to 10s of recruiters everyday for getting a job as a remote SDR and many of them replied!

I asked them if I can work from my home in India in their timings if needed, but all of them told me that I've to relocate to their country on my own expenses!

Relocate for a Remote Job?

What should I do now?

Do you guys know companies hiring entry level remote SDRs regardless of their geographical location?

I really appreciate you taking your time and commenting!

I've already looked at these jobs but every company I've connected with told me that I need to be in their country (in this case, USA)

But I'm from India and I don't want to relocate.

What to do in this situation?ย

find a remote job in your country?

There are some reasons why I'm not considering this.

Firstly, my home town doesn't have many big companies so then also I've to relocate internally.

Secondly inspite of being a Indian, I don't like the culture in Indian companies for various reasons. I don't resonate with them.ย

On other hand, I love the culture of companies which function in countries like UK, USA, etc.

I think this has more to do with all of the work that goes into paying someone in another country (setting up an entity, managing different laws, different payroll systems, etc. etc). Going global isnโ€™t as easy as youโ€™d think.ย

I was thinking of asking them to pay as I'm a freelancer not a employee (just to abide by law).

This would be an option but it would mean extra work on their end that they will likely not be down for.

Maybe a US based company trying to break into India or with sales presence there already?

Here comes our @braintank with another great idea from his tank!

I really like the idea. Let me see how I can use it.

If you have any another idea in your tank, don't hesitate!ย

I got riled up when I saw the title of your post, but then read the body of it.

There are so many complications when it comes to having workers in another country, and a lot of tax/payroll complications.ย

Unfortunately, you're going to have a hard time finding a US-based remote job while working from an entirely different country.ย

You're going to have a tough time finding some company who'll sponsor you to leave India and take up residence in their country for a Sales position because finding a decent sales person locally isn't too difficult.ย ย

I think you're on your own for this one.

Wait why do you have to relocate if itโ€™s remote? I guess they donโ€™t want to deal with paying you internationally? Is contracting an option? Yeah maybe try finding a US based company that already has a presence in India? Iโ€™ve talked with a couple that come to mind. Not sure if theyโ€™re hiring but Greenhouse, Motive(formerly Keep Truckin), EagleViewโ€ฆsorry Iโ€™m not much more help but wishing you the best of luck!

Few things to consider.

1. Are you an American citizen? If so, this will help a ton.

If you are an American citizen, you could have two main options. First, tell them you are in India but planning to relocate to the US, you just need 4-6 months to save up and do so.

During these few months, hustle your ass off to make sure you get great results to the point in which you tell them "Plans changed, I'd like to stay. Cool?" And they will either have to let go of a top performer or be cool with you living in India.

I did this once, while living in Mexico and it worked, although I did get some pushback when I said I was staying indefinitely but then we agreed we'd revisit the situation in 6 months.

Second option, say you are in the US. I know people doing this successfully. It does require extra work, like traveling to pick up equipment in a US address, IP change, sync calendars, etc. nothing too crazy but just takes attention to detail as it can be easy to mess up.

If you are not an American citizen, I think it is a tough situation. Not a lot of companies would be willing to get you a working visa for a sales role.

In this case Id think the best option would be to get skilled on engineering and coding as those roles are way more likely to earn you a work visa.

I know this is not an option for everyone as you have to be interested in it to really enjoy it, me personally would be miserable if I had to do it but could be worth looking into.
