Remote employee team leaders...How do you keep remote team members feeling included?

Started my current role in August 2020. Out of 150 employees, I'm one of 3 remote sales team members (roughly 18 total on sales team).

Myself and the 2 other remote members have started to feel a bit left out.

To those here in the War Room, do you lead a team with remote team members?

  • What do you do to help keep them engaged and included?
  • How can I lead up the chain of command to show there's a bit of a disconnect?

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated as this is something that's been rattling in my head the last week.

My company runs Zoom call blocks all the time so we hop on a Zoom whether you are remote or in the office and then make calls together. Makes a world of difference having teammates to chat with after a good or bad call

We do this once a week with a group of us, but my actual boss isn't a part of it.

He's still new to the leadership side of things so I'm not criticizing by any means. But you are 100% right. Getting that immediate feedback is needed for growth.

Weekly recurring meetings with people I'm currently working deals with (internally - that way we have at least a once a week check in). Definitely helped to have a practice leader available that I could call whenever I had a question or needed assistance.

I've been the only remote person on non-remote teams before. Part of this is about having good leadership. Some tips though:

1) Communicate to your manager that you would appreciate some extra effort on this front because things are slipping through the cracks. Have specific examples when you do this.
2) You and the other remote folks should make it a point to chat with each regularly
3) Try to set up more direct contact through whatever your internal communication tool is with the non-remote folks.
