Remote Happy Hour Ideas?

I want to find fun and creative "Happy Hour" like activities for our remote team to bond better, but my well is running dry. I feel like they can be so awkward and forced! But we need to build more culture & camaraderie. I'm stuck!

My suggestion is to not do remote happy hours. I know people try to do them but they usually are horrible haha.

I agree, they're cringeworthy. I'd say try to get everyone together. The odds of younger people dying from the rona right now are next to zero.

We actually did this a few weeks ago! The problem is, everyone is so distributed now with the last remote, I'm not sure when the next time we'll be able to do this is. I'm trying to figure out a middle ground in between our in-person meet-ups that are more cost friendly to the team and company.

There's a thread on virtual social events which might spark some ideas:  https://bravado.co/war-room/posts/virtual-social-evenbts

This prob isn't that helpful to you but I feel like everyone is just sick of remote "fun" lol. It's tough right now.

My suggestions would be to have an interesting conversation topic so people can get to know each other better - stuff like two truths and a lie, or the moderator asks a question like "what's your favourite place you've ever travelled" and everyone takes turns answering. Trivia could work as well.

I feel the same way! Especially with summer coming up, why would I want to spend more time behind the computer for "fun". But these are good suggestions, something we haven't tried.

Worth giving it a shot. When you start the meeting mention this is super low pressure and meant to be team bonding. Set the expectations and people will loosen up. At least I've found that to be the case on the few virtual happy hours I've attended.

I recently did a happy hour with a sommelier. Shipped 3 bottles of wine to clients and had about 30 people on the event. They loved it

Did you use a service for this? Or directly with the vineyard/distributor?

I think if you can find something to 'force' engagement, like a game or something designed to be played this way it can help. People get competitive and if you have audio/video group chat going you can get a fun atmosphere with it.

How do you define team? Are these managers and reps or people all of the same level?

So I want to do this with the SDR team, but want to also find ways to integrate them with the more senior reps and ae’s as they are in a different departments (ae’s in sales, sdrs in mkting)

Make it a game of some kind then. People sitting around at different levels is just gonna be awkward.

One of the BDRs in my org was a bartender for a few years. We're in TX, so back in the office and going to real happy hours. But when we were all still virtual, we'd send unique mixed drinks to the BDR/bartender and he would create a recipe list and send it out during the week to everyone going to the happy hour on Fridays. Then we'd show up to our virtual happy hour and he'd show us all how to make the drink and we'd do it along with him! It was super fun and gave us all a chance to try new, unique drinks and hang out!
