Resume Tips for No Experience

I currently stock shelves at a grocery store, but I want to break into SaaS sales.

I would like some advice specifically for how to structure a resume for an entry-level SDR role in SaaS.

If you want a little more info, keep reading 👇

I washed out of the corporate world several years ago (supply chain, not sales) because I was a kid who didn't know how to set boundaries.

Worked my ass off 60 hours a week for 8 months, burned out, quit, couldn't explain my short employment in interviews, ended up unemployed.

I got depressed as fuck because I thought I was a total loser for killing my career in less than a year. became an alcoholic. wanted to kill myself.

Fast forward a few years, I finally got my head right, got my confidence back, got my vices under control, and I have a pretty good life.

However, I stock shelves for $15/hr an hour, and I'm not interested in doing that forever (I took the job three months ago, and it's my first "real job" in nearly two years)

I've spent the last few years scraping by as a musician and a freelance writer. I also have a degree in Communication.

Communicating with people is pretty much what I love to do.

I realized recently that I also love selling -- but only for shit I believe in.

For example, I'm a wine nerd with a basic wine and spirits certification, and every time I see a customer browsing the beer & wine section, I strike up a conversation and try to help them buy something they'll love

it's made me realize that selling doesn't have to be skeezy

I started doing some research on sales careers, then I found SaaSBros and Bravado on LinkedIn, and that's when it clicked. I decided I wanted a career in SaaS sales

SaaS products like Canva, Buffer, Discord, and Shopify have literally helped me survive by doing my own thing for the last several years ever since I washed out of my career -- that's why I specifically want to sell SaaS

As much as I love wine, I'd rather sell SaaS, because truly awesome SaaS products legitimately have the power to change lives. Plus, I can use all that extra money from SaaS sales to buy better wine.

so yeah, that's my story

how should I build my resume?

thanks

at the basic level you extract stories and use good verbs. For example you advised customers to increase Cart/basket/order size.

Biggest mistake I see people like you make is you list EVERYTHING, particularly stuff not relevant.

Do you have a resume you're using you can upload anonymously?

Additionally, @realname your best bet is to get an internal referral.

Very good advice here ^^

And I'm sure many savages will be happy to look at an anonymous resume

I’m rebuilding my resume first thing tomorrow (it’s my day off), so I can definitely put together an anonymous version

Part of me is wondering, though, since I don’t really have direct experience, would I be better off just sending a pitch and then referring people to my LinkedIn profile?

Most places require a resume to apply. By foregoing one you're making it harder on yourself.

1. I hate you for doing the “read more here 👇” thing. How dare you.
2. Based on the SDRs that I’ve met as long as you have a pulse you’ll be ok. Go for it.

Sorry homie, I’m still in my 12-step program for marketing rehab

But yeah the vibe I’m getting is that I don’t need too much to qualify for SDR. It’s what I do with it after that counts

As a Freelancer you can write your own job description and accomplishments. Don’t lie but use that to your advantage on your resume.

I'm trying to get started as an AE in saas. I used this  https://compgauge.com/rankings/# website and went through the top companies and just started applying. Can't hurt, but as stated below, referrals will get you there faster.
