Deal Story

revenuehunter closed a deal for $800k

Took me about 7 months selling e-Learning courses specialised in new age technologies, and the challenge was the price point at which I was selling. Per Employee/Year cost was equivalent to 60% of the employee's annual salary. And considering the market being sold into, this was insanely high. Other markets the cost of learning per employee/year was close to about 5-8% of the annual salary. Had to speak with 31 different stakeholders, change the pricing model/product packaging in a way that we bring down the cost for them. That was the only way to add value. This took a lot of internal stakeholder collaboration too. And for the deal to be counted in the same financial year, and not miss my targets - had to get the final signatures on December 28, when the EB was on vacations. (Don't ask me how I reached out, and what I said that he signed it on December 29). $$$$$.

How did you reach out? And what did you say that he signed it on December 29?

So, the EB was holidaying in Spain. My point of contact was one of the senior Directors in the company. I figured out the EB's boss, and shot an email to him copying the EB, and all other stakeholders. I mentioned that for us to be able to kick-start the engagement and have resources aligned internally by Jan 5, we'd need to get a sign off before December 31. All other checks were in place, and the EB just had to access his procurement portal, sign and click on approve button once.

After sending the email, I realised it might end up pissing off the EB and may not be a good idea. But since the email was sent, I called up the director, and told him that "I've sent a confirmation email on the quote, we have accepted all red-lines in the legal process, and my VP has already signed the document. Could you please take a look and see if I've marked it to all the right people for us to move quick?".

Next thing, within two hours I get a call from the EB bashing me for copying his boss (CRO) etc etc. but at the same time after I apologised, I had a signed copy in the mailbox in 15 minutes after the call was disconnected.

Thanks! What if, that was the question in my head too after I sent the email. But then I thought forget about it, this is a fight worth picking when it comes. I was ready for a counter, but I didn't need it.
