Rounds of drinks!

Sometimes we will find ourselves out after work or after a tradeshow/external meeting and the senior (read: much higher paid) reps start rotating who buys the rounds.  This gets to be a v high amount per round.  While I'm experienced/hang out with the old guard- I am in a role that categorically makes less money.  I also can't decline as they just refill me anyways.  I do help most of these folks out sometimes and am invited (not just hanging around), but it's not an AE buying their BDR drinks situation.

am I obligated to buy rounds too or should I feel guilty about not kicking in?

*edit- I feel like I sounded ungrateful!  I def try to buy a round occasionally- it also doesn't help that I drink slower and am about a foot shorter than all the other sales team!!! :). Thanks everyone for the advice.  I was nervous about commuting a social faux pas!

No you don't have to kick in but don't be a freeloader. Decline drink offers and have your own tab going.

^this as well - if they're paying you back they'll start slinging drinks at you regardless.

Depends on the relationship as you said.

If the ones you're helping are inviting you, then it could be them just paying you back.

Do they accept if you offer to buy a round?

Get there early and pick up the first round before the whole team shows up. This way you are not buying as many as you would for round 3 or 4!

To be honest it's up to you 100%. I would though, if I could, invest in those relationships every now and then.

Pay it forward. I always buy a drink or two for people in roles below me, when at company HH's or event. AE's and VP's bought rounds of drinks for me in the past and they knew that I would either pay it forward or buy one for them when the time was appropriate. I think this is how most people feel. Also, anyone who keeps tally like that shouldn't be buying rounds. You buy a round of drinks because you want to, not because you expect one in return.

There is a round. You're obligated unless you tap out before they get the round. Absolute rude people take the drink and run. No hard feelings to "just got one, I'll skip".

Literally if you join a round "get the next one", don't leave the round until everyone has their turn...

I would grab a round here and there. Worst comes to worst, throw it on the company card. "Team Building"

What is a very high amount per round for context?  Is everyone drinking Pappy at $150 a glass?  Without more context it is hard.  I think funcoupons has a good point, you could always just decline and buy your own drinks.  But at a minimum, you should offer to buy a round if you are accepting drinks from them.
