SaaS as side hustle when working in SaaS already

I'm an incoming AE at a major SaaS company - but have the technical skills (and ideas) to build MicroSaaS of my own as a side hustle.

I'm bound by heavy non-compete, IP ownership clauses, etc. Even though I wouldn't be competing, I'm scared about the perception. Any advice/experience with this situation fellow hustlers?

If I were you I'd start building it and tell absolutely nobody at your company. Don't do it on company time and absolutely don't do any of it on a company laptop.

Once you have it built you can assess how you want to move forward

Great tip. Then if it could be viable, reach out to get something on paper to exclude it.

Yikes. Unfortunately this is not my wheelhouse. I am sure there's someone in here that can lend advice. Hang in there.

Might not be the worst idea to contact a lawyer in this field. That's something I would be careful with. Good luck!

Playing devils advocate, do you feel you could make much more by creating your own side-SaaS?
As an AE would you be able to hit accelerators and make better money than you would with a side hustle if you took all the time and kept it focused on your main role?

or is it your idea to spread out your income risk and diversify your income?

I think building MicroSaaS while working in SaaS for a major company definitely wont look great. Also ask yourself if you put that time you'd spend building out that MicroSaaS into blowing out your number would that net you more $.
