SaaS company getting acquired

Guerreros!!!! Salute you all

Its looking like our company is getting acquired, (1B+ SaaS product, trading on the NYSE)

They just opened up offices in Costa Rica, which is where I am located. I am an account executive with a team of 50 AEs down here in CR.

Should I be looking for a new job? Just in case, I have polished up my CV but im not sure if that is being negative or what.. i have not heard good things about acquisitions - Im just over 100% quota, 1 year in the company and yeah.. entire sales org in CR is 1 about year old here

THANKSSS

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it truly can't hurt to put feelers out and start talking to people.

If you get booted, you don't want that to happen without any preparation.

Exactly! It's not time for the panic button just yet, but it never hurts to be ahead of the game.
In your team, where do you stand? Top of the leaderboard? Or? With 50 AEs, you are in a very large pool IMO.
Who is acquiring your company? One with a similar, or a complementary, technology? What's their sales structure? Will their team be able to take on your technology as part of their bag? Alternately, will you have the opportunity to look at roles on that side of the fence?

thank you both! great insight - and to answer your question sunbunny, I am top 10- 15 AEs. Not bottom of the table but not one of the superstars.. Company acquiring us is a private equity fund and a pretty big asset manager.. Im in the new business side, so AE which we are 15 and the rest are AM (expansion)

It's 100% less stressful to look for a potential new gig while still being paid.
And whether being acquired is good vs bad...depends on the acquiring company and their current sales org....if there is territory / product overlap then potential for streamlining (aka layoffs).....but could also be a positive....nothing changes aside from now having a higher profile employer name on your resume or there could be options for lateral / upward movement in the new / larger entity.....no need to jump now...but certainly explore other potential options just in case.

dont jump ship yet! its not always a bad thing when you get bought.

The worst thing that could happen is the new ownership comes in and lets you go.....and that normally comes with a large severance package.
so sit tight!

Also if you have any options/ share that have vested/ are about to vest you should stick around to catch that cheque at the very least

If you ever think to start looking, might as well test the waters. You can decline offers and be picky

life is like that sometimes, when you DONT need a job you'll get a bunch of interviews and decent offers.. then you are URGENT for a job and the local mcdonalds declines your CV lol

Stick around, but have a network ready. Acquisitions can take a long time. Also, if they do let you go, there may be a package that you get which will help soften the blow.

Being acquired doesnโ€™t mean time to find a new job but there will be changes so doesnโ€™t hurt to look especially while youโ€™re still getting a check

Hi, I work in a SaaS company too and we have been recently acquired.
My advice is to stay in the current company as being part of an integration is a great experience for the CV and you will never know which oppotunities you will find in the new company.
You will have time to start aplying if the new company does not fit with you, but patience may be rewarded :)
