SaaS Startup First Sales Rep

I'm still the first rep here but we've just recently hit a milestone and scaling up here in Q3. Just wanted to know if anyone has some advice on how best ways to scale up a team while you're still having to demo and close.

We currently have an SDR and our CS team is overseas. Looking to grow with an additional AE and probably 1 - 2 SDRs to support. Should I just promote the SDR if he continues to perform or hire an proven AE?

Proven AE.

You'd want the experienced SDR available to help onboard new SDR's - essentially a player-coach. Proving out there would out them next in line for an internal promotion, in my opinion.

It sounds like you have some reservations about promoting the SDR.

Yeah, he’s pretty junior and he did have some SaaS experience but hasn’t performed to my expectations but we’re still working on our processes. Proven AE would make sense but our budget is pretty low so that might be tough.
