The way I see it, your salary is to justify your losses. It for when a prospect slams the phone on you or insults you.

The commission is there for your wins, for when you finally close a deal.

We need both to succeed!

A nice mix.  A base to live off and commission to incentivize hard work.

Agreed with this. I live off my base. Invest and celebrate off my commission

This was a good poll of base/commish percentages:

I prefer base and commission. Need the piece of mind, especially since I have long sales cycles.

Both are fine; 70 - 30 commiss is ideal for me.

The sale itself, not for the comish, but because you know you did something well and helped someone solve a problem!

I like the security of base but commission is also important. My company pays under market rate for base, massively so in some cases. Isn't an issue for me because I smash target, but I know it's a common complaint.

Previously I had 70-30 Fix-commiss and feel great.
Now I have 60-40 and feels better as i am overachieving and pays more in the new company

Salary is simply a commission paid out over 12 months.

It’s hard living on commission alone. Possible but it’s the fast track to stroke town. Once you can lock in that salary it makes life easier but selling harder. That’s why I need a mix. The drive to work harder with the security of that paycheck is the way to go when possible.

The problem solving part of it. Tweaking your pitch or coming up with a new strategy and seeing the progress after implementing it feels awesome.
